Due to the increasing penetration of renewable energies in the power system, the frequency control problem has attracted more attention, while the traditional control methods are not capable of regulating the frequency and securing the stability of the system. In smart grids, demand response as the frequency control tool reduces the dependence on spinning reserve and high cost controllers. In a...

We extend previous work in orientation selective cellular neural networks to include competitive couplings between different layers tuned to different orientations and spatial frequencies. The presence of these interactions sharpens the spatial frequency tuning of the filters in two ways, when compared to a similar architecture proposed previously which lacks these interactions. The first is th...

This paper discusses non-separable 2-D filter banks with diamondshape support. The frequency spectrum partitioning is shown to have higher theoretical coding gain than that of the conventional separable approach in image coding application. However, based on the frequency response structure of the subband filters, they can not be implemented with good frequency characteristic although the passb...

A low-cost on-line test scheme for digital filters is proposed. The scheme uses an invariant of the digital filter, the frequency response at specific points, in order to detect possible malfunctioning of the circuit. The analysis performed indicates that 100% fault secureness is possible, if certain design constraints are followed.

In this paper, an Optimisation-based Approach to Interval Model Identification in the Frequency Domain is proposed. As a result of its application, an interval LTI model with a prefixed structure that satisfies that its worst-case frequency response contains all the measured given data is obtained. The optimisation problem is formulated using, as constraints, that this inclusion property is exp...

This paper characterizes optimal control policies for wind farms operated as frequency response services in case of a fault of conventional generators. The frequency support is provided through temporary over-production: when frequency drops, the turbines move from the steady-state operating point and extra power is produced by slowing down the turbines and releasing part of their kinetic energ...

This paper describes a new approach to the design of multidimensional (M-D) nite-wordlength digital lters with speciications in the frequency and spatial domains. The approach is based on stochastic optimization and extends previous work on nite impulse response (FIR) lters in two ways: by inclusion of spatial constraints and by application to the case of innnite impulse response (IIR) lters. T...

The rotational frequency response function (RFRF) plays a crucial role in increasing the accuracy of calculated results frequency-based substructuring method. However, RFRFs are often omitted due to difficulties measurement process and limitations equipment. This paper presents scheme estimating FRF an irregular plate structure using FE model reduction expansion reduced was introduced improved ...

Rational choice when preferences are not required to be transitive and complete has been discussed in the literature for years. In this article transitivity and completeness of the preference relation is also not assumed. It will be shown that nevertheless the existence of a competitive equilibrium can be proven when those properties are replaced by a domination property which allows that there...
