Finger Millet samples are collected from different villages affected with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Uddanam area of Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh, India. These samples are analyzed using Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF). The trace elements P, S, Cl, K, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Se are identified and compared with NIST Apple leaf-1515. The impact of each element on human physio...

Millets are renowned for their climatic resilience and possess high nutritive value with wide genetic variations. In countries like India Africa, millets part of many people's regular diets rich sources protein, dietary fiber, polyphenols, minerals, vitamins, other nutrients. The proteomic signatures several millet species, including Fonio, Finger, Proso, Sorghum, Foxtail millet, were examined ...

Sixteen fonio millet and 17 sesame samples were analysed for incidence of moulds, especially aflatoxigenic Aspergillus species, in order to determine the safety of both crops to consumers, and to correlate aflatoxin levels in the crops with levels produced by toxigenic isolates on laboratory medium. Diverse moulds including Alternaria, Aspergillus, Cercospora, Fusarium, Mucor, Penicillium, Rhiz...

Induced mutagenesis by gamma rays plays a potent promising technology to be applied for crop improvement through breeding methods, especially in tiny florets possessing self- pollinated plants such as cereals. Finger millet (Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn.) which always ensured valuable nutrients, well famine tolerant supply food global population throughout the year. The present study was perfo...

INTRODUCTION Africa is the centre of origin and still today the major producing area for several cereal crops, notably sorghum, pearl millet, finger millet, teff, fonio and African rice. These traditional African cereals are sometimes called “Orphan Crops”, or even “Lost Crops” (National Research Council, 1996). This is despite the fact that they are staple foods for millions of people in the s...

Genetic diversity among fifteen finger millet genotypes was estimated using RAPD markers. Out of the initial twenty-five random primers, nine RAPD primers were found to be highly reproducible and produced a total of 60 loci of which 51 loci were polymorphic. Primer OPC18 amplified highest number of polymorphic bands. Percentage of polymorphism varied from 50% to 100% with an average of 80.8%. P...

In C(4) plants, bundle sheath (BS) chloroplasts are arranged in the centripetal position or in the centrifugal position, although mesophyll (M) chloroplasts are evenly distributed along cell membranes. To examine the molecular mechanism for the intracellular disposition of these chloroplasts, we observed the distribution of actin filaments in BS and M cells of the C(4) plants finger millet (Ele...
