Syntrophins are scaffold proteins that can bind several signaling molecules and localize them to the plasma membrane. We demonstrate here that in neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells, brain-specific 1 -syntrophin binds the neurotrophic factor -enolase through its PDZ domain, and translocates it to the plasma membrane, as shown by immunoprecipitation, surface plasmon resonance, fluorescence colocalizatio...

Neuron-specific enolase-like and kallikrein-like immunoreactivity was found to be co-localized in the ductal elements of the submandibular gland and in the more distal portions of the nephron in the kidney of newborn lambs. Some glomerular peripolar cells in the kidney were immunopositive for neuron-specific enolase without detectable kallikrein-like immunoreactivity.

METHODS: We used a classic proteomic approach with extracts from granulocytes and pANCA-positive ulcerative colitis (UC) sera to confirm -enolase as a target antigen. By means of Western blot analysis, we screened a cohort of 525 subjects for the presence of anti– -enolase antibodies. We performed GeneArray experiments on RNA extracted from colonic mucosal biopsies from 35 IBD and 6 control pat...

The present studies were initiated to determine the biochemical basis fo r the existence of multiple, electrophoretically distinct enolase activities in the parasitic round worm Ascaris suum. A total of five activities were resolved by electrophoresis of worm body fluids on cellulose polyacetate strips followed by staining the strips specifically for enolase activity. These activities are refer...

To identify novel cell ageing markers in order to gain insight into ageing mechanisms, we adopted membrane enrichment and comparison of the CD4(+) T cell membrane proteome (purified by cell surface labelling using Sulfo-NHS-SS-Biotin reagent) between healthy young (n=9, 20-25 years) and older (n=10; 50-70 years) male adults. Following two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) to separate pooled...

In mammals, haem degradation to biliverdin (BV) through the action of haem oxygenase (HO) is a critical step in haem metabolism. The malaria parasite converts haem into the chemically inert haemozoin to avoid toxicity. We discovered that the knock-out of HO in P. berghei is lethal; therefore, we investigated the function of biliverdin (BV) and haem in the parasite. Addition of external BV and h...

Dexamethasone (DEX)-induced heart damage is associated with enzyme and protein alterations. The purpose of this study was to investigate DEX-induced alterations in cardiac enolase and caveolin-1 (cav-1) following DEX administration. Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups: a control and a DEX. The DEX group intraperitoneally received DEX at the single dose of 10 mg/kg for 7 conse...

BACKGROUND Several studies have noted the significance of measuring anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibodies in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) as an important indicator for destructive disease, as is the case in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). While the role of anti-CCP antibodies in RA and JIA has become better understood, the identity of the target proteins of this modification has ...

We have cloned, over-expressed and purified enolase from Plasmodium falciparum strain NF54 in Escherichia coli in active form, as an N-terminal His6-tagged protein. The sequence of the cloned enolase from the NF54 strain is identical to that of strain 3D7 used in full genome sequencing. The recombinant enolase (r-Pfen) could be obtained in large quantities (approximately 50 mg per litre of cult...
