Ditaxis heterantha is a plant of the Euphorbiaceae family that grows in semiarid regions of Mexico. It produces yellow pigmented seeds that are used for coloring of foods. The seeds contain about 20% of proteins. Proteins of D. heterantha were extracted and fractionated on the basis of solubility. Three main protein fractions were obtained: glutelins, 488 ± 0.5; albumins, 229 ± 2; and total glo...

Pickering emulsions with the use of particles as emulsifiers have been extensively used in scientific research and industrial production due to their edge in biocompatibility and stability compared with traditional emulsions. The control over Pickering emulsion stability and type plays a significant role in these applications. Among the present methods to build controllable Pickering emulsions,...

Core cross-linked star polymers of low polydispersity were efficiently prepared in high yield by RAFT-mediated emulsion and dispersion polymerizations in water at high solid content. These star polymers were demonstrated to be effective emulsifiers, and the emulsion was successfully used as template to fabricate polymer particles.

portant component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain (1). Because of its poor aqueous solubility, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) presents a challenge when developing a formulation for oral administration. Many approaches have been used to improve the in vitro dissolution of CoQ10. Some of the approaches include complexation with cyclodextrins (2), preparation of redispersible dry emulsion (3), solid ...

Grain amaranthus in its ordinary state may be modified by germination to perform extraordinary role as emulsifier for our fastgrowing food industry with a concomitant increase in food production to satisfy the everincreasing population of the world with its associated food insecurity. Hence, this study aimed at determining the optimum germination temperature for the maximum improvement of the f...

Emulsifying and foaming properties of plant animal-sourced proteins; wheat protein hydrolysates (WP1, WP2, WP3), potato isolates (PP1, PP2), pea proteins (PeP1, PeP2), whey concentrate (WPC), buttermilk powder (BMP) were compared with the egg white (EWP) yolk (EYP). Foaming capacity, stability, emulsion activity, heat morphology, electrophoretic profiles determined. The representing competitive...

In situ groundwater remediation may be achieved using stationary permeable barriers created by the injection of a substrate, such as innocuous vegetable oil, into the contaminated aquifer. The oil provides the electron donor stimulating microorganisms to degrade or sequester many contaminants. At present, little is known about the best procedures to use when injecting oil into an aquifer. In th...

Residual effectiveness of plaster matrix formulations of temephos and temephos plus an emulsifier (Atlox 3409F) were evaluated against Aedes aegypti larvae during an 8-wk period. Formulations of 2% and 5% (AI) Atlox with 5% (AI) temephos yielded 100% larval mortality for 8 wk. A 5% temephos formulation without the addition of the emulsifier produced 100% larval mortality through only 1 wk.
