Background: Eccrine hydrocystomas are essentially eccrine sweat gland retention cyst located in the dermis that clinically presents as small translucent cystic swelling. Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of 20% aluminum chloride hexahydrate in absolute alcohol in the treatment of eccrine hydrocystoma. Patients and Methods: In a randomized, double-blind...
Benign eccrine poroma arises from the intraepidermal portion of the eccrine gland duct. Malignant transformation is rare and should be suspected when these lesions present with pain, bleeding or itching. We report a 44-year-old male patient who presented primarily with a lesion diagnostic of benign eccrine poroma of the right foot sole with no clear evidence of malignancy, which was incompletel...
Eccrine sweat glands are generally considered to be a possible epidermal stem cell source. Here we compared the multilayered epithelia formed by epidermal keratinocytes and those formed by eccrine sweat gland cells. We demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo the capability of human eccrine sweat gland cells to form a stratified interfollicular epidermis substitute on collagen hydrogels. This is ...
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Various intranasal landmarks have been described to aid in the localization of the natural sphenoid sinus ostium. The objectives of this study are to identify the ostium location relative to the skull base and assess the relationships between the location of the ostium and sphenoid disease or pneumatization pattern. DESIGN Descriptive study. METHODS Consecutive Xoran M...
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the nasolacrimal ostium created after successful external dacryocystorhinostomy. METHODS This prospective study included 41 successful primary external dacryocystorhinostomies performed in 41 patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction (33 women and 8 men; age range, 19-75 years). The dimensions of osteotomy were measured during surgery. Patients alternately underwent ei...
Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma is an unusual neoplasia characterized by hamartomatous proliferation of the portion of the secretory and ductal sudoriparous eccrine gland associated with capillary and other elements. We characterized the clinicopathologic and ultrasonographic study of a bluish nodule in the digital pulp of the right hand of a nineteen-year-old girl. The nodule was painful and ass...
Granular parakeratosis is a recently recognized disorder of keratinization that is usually confined to intertriginous areas. The histopathologic features are distinctive and diagnostic. Rarely, histopathologic variants such as follicular granular parakeratosis and granular parakeratosis of eccrine ostia have been described. In this report, we describe a rare case of granular parakeratosis mostl...
Porokeratotic eccrine ostial and dermal duct nevus (PEODDN) is a rare eccrine hamartoma, with treatment generally being unsatisfactory. The unique features of PEODDN presented include bilateral and facial lesions, and extensive body involvement. Management with CO2 laser was successful, and follow-up will be necessary to monitor for recurrent lesions.
Electron microscope observations on eccrine sweat glands have been carried out by many workers, namely on human eccrine swear glands by HIBBS (1958), IIJIMA (1959), CHRALES (1960), KUROSUMI et al. (1960), and MUNGER (1961) and on those of animals by KITAMURA (1958), MUNGER et al. (1961), ELLIS et al. (1961), MATSUZAWA et al. (1963), KUROSUMI et al. (1964) and TERZAKIS (1964). Already by means o...
