ABST RACT The aim of the study is to report the clinical and radiographic outcome after use of an interlocking nail (ILN) for stabilization of long bone fractures in dogs. Twenty-six dogs were evaluated. There were ten femoral fractures, 12 tibial fractures and four humeral fractures. The equipment was manufactured by Orthovet (Orthovet, Izmir, Turkey). Three ILN lengths with three different di...
Recently, we experienced a case where the diagnosis and management of a deep femoral artery rupture was delayed. This vascular complication occurred during the insertion of a distal interlocking screw of a proximal femoral nail for the fixation of an intertrochanteric femur fracture. A 79-year-old male patient was diagnosed with a right intertrochanteric fracture after a fall. We fixed the frac...
BACKGROUND The surgical treatment of fractures of the tibia includes reamed and unreamed options. Reamed nails have mechanical advantages but they significantly harm the endosteal circulation. Unreamed nails spare the endosteal circulation, but provide a less stable fixation. In both systems, immediate full weight-bearing is not possible due to instability related to distal interlocking (DI). F...
Internal fixation with intramedullary devices has gained popularity for the treatment of intertrochanteric femoral fractures, which are common injuries in the elderly. The most common complications are lag screw cut out from the femoral head and femoral fracture at the distal tip of the nail. We report here a rare complication of postoperative lag screw migration into the pelvis with no trauma....
AIM To evaluate the management of aseptic non-unions of the distal third of the tibial diaphysis, using static interlocking intramedullary nailing. METHODS Between January 2005 and November 2012, a total number of 42 patients who underwent surgery at our hospital for aseptic non-unions of the distal third of the tibial diaphysis, were included in our study. Preoperatively, all the patients we...
Fifteen patients underwent arthrodesis of finger distal interphalangeal joint (DIP) and/or thumb interphalangeal joint (IP). Only Herbert screw intramedullary compression fixation was used. There was one faulty proximal thread placement with some pain, but the patient refused further surgery. Full union was achieved in 14 of the cases, with prominent hardware in one and intolerance to cold in two.
To the best of our knowledge, only 3 cases, including the present case, have been reported with a three part broken pattern. However, this is the first case associated with a distal locking screw broken. We report the case of a 31-year-old patient who sustained an open femoral shaft fracture . The fracture was stabilized with a Kuntcher femoral nail. After 7 months of the initial surgery he pre...
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a novel radiation-independent aiming device for distal locking of intramedullary nails in a human cadaver model. METHODS A new targeting system was used in 25 intact human cadaver femora for the distal locking procedure after insertion of an intramedullary nail. The number of successful screw placements and the time neede...
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Percutaneous plating of the distal tibia via a limited incision is an accepted technique of osteosynthesis for extra-articular and simple intra-articular distal tibia fractures. The aim of this study was to analyze structures that are at risk during this approach. MATERIAL AND METHODS Thirteen unpaired adult lower limbs were used for this study. Thirteen, 15-hole LCP ante...
