Two novel theoretical models that give the intensity of the optical signal generated by a Mach-Zehnder modulator through a dispersive medium are reported. These models include the chirp and dispersion factors and can be used for largesignals and for large values of the chirp parameters. Theoretical results are in good agreement with the simulation.
We report families of discrete optical solitons in frequency space, or spectral-discrete solitons existing in a dispersive Raman medium, where individual sidebands are coupled by coherence. The associated time-domain patterns correspond either to trains of ultrashort pulses or to weakly modulated waves. We describe the physics behind the spectral localization and study soliton bifurcations, sta...
The Letter describes a technique for the spontaneous generation of chirped time-energy entangled photons. Transmitting either photon through an appropriate dispersive medium results in a temporally compressed, transform limited biphoton. At maximum bandwidth, the biphoton is a single cycle in length, with a waveform that has the same characteristic shape as a classical single-cycle pulse.
Guided waves travel in plates and hollow cylinders over large distances and propagate with multiple mode shapes. Therefore the waves can be used viably for integrity tests of large scale structures. The number of propagating modes increases with frequency. Due to their dispersive character the different modes are manageable only in a limited frequency range. Depending on the wave length and on ...
In this work, we use Drude-Lorents model description to study the radiation of a charged particles moving in a homogeneous dispersive medium. A suitable quantized electromagnetic field for such medium is utilized to obtain proper equations for energy loss of the particle per unit length. The energy loss is separately calculated for transverse and longitudinal components of the filed operators. ...

In this article we develop a method for synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) imaging through a dispersive medium. We consider the case when the sensor and scatterers are embedded in a known homogeneous dispersive material, the scene to be imaged lies on a known surface, and the radar antenna flight path is an arbitrary but known smooth curve. The scattering is modeled using a linearized (Born) scalar...
in the present study, the effect of e-64 at different concentrations (0.5, 1, 5 and 10 µm) added to (1) the ivm medium on oocyte nuclear maturation and developmental competence of ovine oocytes, and (2) to the ivc medium on embryonic development of ovine embryos were investigated.
Imagine a medium that strongly absorbs a light beam of a certain frequency. Add a second light source, with a frequency that would also be absorbed by the medium, and the medium becomes transparent to the first light beam. This curious phenomenon is called electromagnetically induced transparency ~EIT!. It usually takes place in vapors of threelevel atoms. The light sources are lasers that driv...
The optical dispersive prism is a well-studied element, which allows separating white light into its constituent spectral colors, and stands in nature as water droplets. In analogy to this definition, the acoustic dispersive prism should be an acoustic device with capability of splitting a broadband acoustic wave into its constituent Fourier components. However, due to the acoustical nature of ...
