it is well known that if the coefficient matrix in a linear system is large and sparse or sometimes not readily available, then iterative solvers may become the only choice. the block solvers are an attractive class of iterative solvers for solving linear systems with multiple right-hand sides. in general, the block solvers are more suitable for dense systems with preconditioner. in this paper,...

in this paper, we present two new families of third-order and fourth-order methods for finding multiple roots of nonlinear equations. each of them requires one evaluation of the function and two of its first derivative per iteration. several numerical examples are given to illustrate the performance of the presented methods.

Protein complexes are essential components in many cellular processes. In this study, a procedure to determine the protein-complex structure from a partial molecular-replacement (MR) solution is demonstrated using a direct-method-aided dual-space iterative phasing and model-building program suite, IPCAS (Iterative Protein Crystal structure Automatic Solution). The IPCAS iteration procedure invo...

We present an iterative method for the solution of the exterior all-space electrostatic problem for nonlinear dielectric media. The electric potential is specified on interior boundaries and the electric field decays at infinity. Our approach uses a natural variational formulation based on the total energy of the nonlinear dielectric medium subject to boundary conditions. The problem is decompo...

The article considers the effectiveness of various methods used to solve systems of linear equations (which emerge while modeling computer networks and systems with Markov chains) and the practical influence of the methods applied on accuracy. The paper considers some hybrids of both direct and iterative methods. Two varieties of the Gauss elimination will be considered as an example of direct ...

We propose a new ternary infinite (even full-infinite) square-free sequence. The sequence is defined both by an iterative method and by a direct definition. Both definitions are analogous to those of the Thue-Morse sequence. The direct definition is given by a deterministic finite automaton with output. In short, the sequence is automatic.

In mathematics, the conjugate gradient method is an algorithm for the numerical solution of particular systems of linear equations, namely those whose matrix is symmetric and positive-definite. The conjugate gradient method is often implemented as an iterative algorithm, applicable to sparse systems that are too large to be handled by a direct implementation or other direct methods such as the ...

In this paper, we first introduce a monotone mapping and its resolvent in general metric spaces. Then, we give two new iterative methods  by combining the resolvent method with Halpern's iterative method and viscosity approximation method for  finding a fixed point of monotone mappings and a solution of variational inequalities. We prove convergence theorems of the proposed iterations  in ...

Image restoration applications often result in ill-posed least squares problems involving large, structured matrices. One approach used extensively is to restore the image in the frequency domain, thus providing fast algorithms using ffts. This is equivalent to using a circulant approximation to a given matrix. Iterative methods may also be used eeectively by exploiting the structure of the mat...

A MATLAB implementation of the Moré-Sorensen sequential (MSS) method is presented. The MSS method computes the minimizer of a quadratic function defined by a limited-memory BFGS matrix subject to a two-norm trust-region constraint. This solver is an adaptation of the Moré-Sorensen direct method into an L-BFGS setting for large-scale optimization. The MSS method makes use of a recently proposed ...
