We present a time-consistent depth estimation algorithm for 2D-to-3D video conversion. The algorithm exploits variance of image to identify the foreground, and uses modified scene change detection method that exploits a color histogram. In simulations the proposed algorithm did not commit depth-reversal or saliency-instability. Keywords—Saliency, Depth-reversal, Estimation instability
The problem of depth-from-motion using a monocular image sequence is considered. A pixel-based model is developed for direct depth estimation within a Kalman filtering framework. A method is proposed for incorporating local surface structure into the Kalman filter. Experimental results are provided to illustrate the effect of structural information on depth estimation.
This article deals with the generalization of a local depth estimation method using sharp edges and blurred edges. This Depth from Defocus method is explained and the theoretical relations are defined. Improvements concerning the generalization and the noise sensitivity on the depth estimation are developed and application conditions are exposed. Some results on synthetic images are presented t...
We propose a novel approach to problem of temporal consistency. To tackle temporal inconsistency we propose to eliminate its cause. Depth map fluctuations are caused by noise, mainly temporal. We propose to employ noise reduction on video before depth estimation. Each view of a multi-view video sequence, is independently denoised in time and then feed to a depth estimation algorithm (Fig. 1). A...
in this paper, the crack detection and depth ratio estimation method are presented in beamlikestructures using elman networks. for this purpose, by using the frequencies of modes asinput, crack depth ratio of each element was detected as output. performance of the proposedmethod was evaluated by using three numerical scenarios of crack for fixed-simply supportedbeam consisting of a single crack...
Depth estimation from a single image is an emerging topic in computer vision and beyond. To this end, the existing works typically train a depth regressor from visual appearance. However, the state-of-the-art performance of these schemes is still far from satisfactory, mainly because of the over-fitting and under-fitting problems in regressor training. In this paper, we offer a different data-d...
In this paper we address the problem of automatic arrangement of cameras in a 3D system to enhance the performance of depth acquisition procedure. Lacking ground truth or a priori information, a measure of uncertainty is required to assess the quality of reconstruction. The mathematical model of iso-disparity surfaces provides an efficient way to estimate the depth estimation uncertainty which ...
A recent publication by McCargar and Zurk [(2013). J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 133(4), EL320-EL325] introduced a modified Fourier transform-based method for passive source depth estimation using vertical line arrays deployed below the critical depth in the deep ocean. This method utilizes the depth-dependent modulation caused by the interference between the direct and surface-reflected acoustic arrival...
