Fast neutron activation analysis has been applied to bulk carbon detection. DT-neutron generator emitting 14.1 MeV neutrons was used as a source. Prompt 4.44 gammas from the inelastic scattering on were detected using 30% HPGe semiconductor gamma spectrometer shielded primary beam. The sensitivity of experimental setup is discussed. Keywords: Activation analysis; neutrons; Gamma spectrometry.
The work focuses on Monte Carlo simulations for finding the optimal back scatter time-of-flight spectrometer design for concept testing at the NESSA facility at Uppsala University. The spectrometer consists of two scintillator detectors, D1 (placed in a neutron beam) and D2 (placed in front of D1), at some distance from each other. A fraction of the neutrons that impinge on D1 back scatter into...
The intensity of prompt gamma-ray was measured at various depths from chlorine-contaminated silica fume (SF) concrete slab concrete specimens using portable neutron generator-based prompt gamma-ray setup. The intensity of 6.11MeV chloride gamma-rays was measured from the chloride contaminated slab at distance of 15.25, 20.25, 25.25, 30.25 and 35.25cm from neutron target in a SF cement concrete ...
Early measurements of SN 1987A can be interpreted in light of the beam/jet (BJ), with a collimation factor >10, which had to hit polar ejecta (PE) to produce the “Mystery Spot” (MS), some 24 light-days distant. Other details of SN 1987A strongly suggest that it resulted from a merger of two stellar cores of a common envelope (CE) binary, i.e. a “double degenerate” (DD)-initiated SN. Without hav...
We present preliminary results of measurements of the quenching factor for Na recoils in NaI(Tl) at room temperature, made at a dedicated neutron facility at the University of Sheffield. Measurements have been performed with a 2.45 MeV mono-energetic neutron generator in the energy range from 10 keV to 100 keV nuclear recoil energy. A BC501A liquid scintillator detector was used to tag neutrons...
Early measurements of SN 1987A can be interpreted in light of the beam/jet (BJ) which had to hit polar ejecta (PE) to produce the “Mystery Spot” (MS), some 22 light-days distant. It takes an extra eight days for the SN flash to hit the MS, and early measurements confirm 2×1039 ergs/s in the optical for a day at day 8, before dropping off by day 8.5. A linear ramp in luminosity starting near day...
An extensive study of population control techniques (PCTs) for time-dependent and eigenvalue Monte Carlo (MC) neutron transport calculations is presented. We define PCT as a technique that takes censused returns controlled, unbiased population. A new perspective based on an abstraction particle census explored, paving the way to improved understanding application concepts. Five distinct PCTs id...
