To demonstrate that Ochratoxin A can cause kidney failure as the kidney is the primary target for OTA cytotoxicity. Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mycotoxin found in our food. The cytotoxic effect of a low cumulative dose of OTA on the renal corpuscles of the kidney tissue has been investigated in this report. This study was based on two groups in which weaning albino rats were used: (1) control; (2) ...

Histological examination of thymi from juvenile Acipenser ruthenus and Acipenser brevirostrum after haematoxylin and eosin staining revealed the presence of Hassall’s corpuscles, in a scattered distribution within the thymic medulla in two of seven, and one of nine examined specimens, respectively. Morphologically, the Hassall’s corpuscles were of the juvenile and premature type and no degenera...

A recent paper by Folin and Svedberg (1) introduces new perplexit, ies in the problem of the distribution of blood sugar between corpuscles and plasma. Until recently the view that the concentration of sugar in corpuscles and in plasma is nearly the same found general acceptance. Expressed in a convenient term this means that the ratio of distribution, corpuscle sugar: plasma sugar, is about uni...

A method for Red Blood Corpuscles (RBCs) counting has been developed using RBCs light microscopic images and Matlab algorithm. The Dataset consists of Red Blood Corpuscles (RBCs) images and there RBCs segmented images. A detailed description using flow chart is given in order to show how to produce RBCs mask. The RBCs mask was used to count the number of RBCs in the blood smear image.

The authors present two cases of hyperplasia of Pacinian corpuscles, one in the hand and another in the foot. In the hand the corpuscles were located along the radial border of the pulp of the little finger and presented with localised sharp pain. In the foot, it presented as metatarsalgia in association with Morton's neuroma of the second web space. Both patients underwent exploration and exci...

In mammals, the first step in the perception of form and texture is the activation of trigeminal or dorsal root ganglion (DRG) mechanosensory neurons, which are classified as either rapidly (RA) or slowly adapting (SA) according to their rates of adaptation to sustained stimuli. The molecular identities and mechanisms of development of RA and SA mechanoreceptors are largely unknown. We found th...

PURPOSE To investigate the nerve endings of the adult temporomandibular joint disk, in particular the presence and configuration of the sensory nerve endings by silver staining and electron microscopy. METHODS 20 cadaveric temporomandibular joints impregnated with silver stain were studied using an optical microscope; 2 other joints were studied using a transmission electron microscope. RES...

The rapidly adapting (RA) low-threshold mechanoreceptors respond to movement of the skin and vibration and are critical for the perception of texture and shape. In this issue of Neuron, two papers (Bourane et al. and Luo et al.) demonstrate that early-born Ret+ sensory neurons are RA mechanoreceptors, whose peripheral nerve terminals are associated with Meissner corpuscles, longitudinal lanceol...
