Morgagni hernia is a disease in which the abdominal contents herniate into the thoracic cavity through a congenital parasternal defect of the diaphragm resulting from an increased intra-abdominal pressure. Obesity, pregnancy, and a history of trauma are considered predisposing factors of Morgagni hernia. However, there is slight evidence that trauma has been the factor. Moreover, Morgagni herni...

Morgagni hernia is an unusual congenital herniation of abdominal content through the triangular parasternal gaps of the anterior diaphragm. They are commonly asymptomatic and right-sided. We present a case of a bilateral Morgagni hernia resulting in delayed growth in a 10-month-old boy. The presentation was unique due to its bilateral nature and its symptomatic compression of the mediastinum. D...

Congenital diaphragmatic Bochdaleck hernia is an anatomical defect of the diaphragm, which allows protrusion of abdominal viscera into the chest, causing serious pulmonary and cardiac complications in the neonate. In this study we aimed to present a case of congenital Bochdaleck hernia. We investigated a 40 weeks old child, with a pregnancy carried out in a public hospital in Passo Fundo, Rio G...

Bilateral congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a rare birth defect, with a poor prognosis. We describe a case of bilateral CDH discovered while repairing the right sided CDH. Diaphragmatic defect was repaired and a silo was applied on the abdominal wound to avoid abdominal compartment syndrome. The patient however died postoperatively due to severe pulmonary hypertension.

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) can be one of the most clinically challenging neonatal conditions. It occurs in 1 in 2-5000 live births in the UK with no predominance between the sexes. Herniation of abdominal contents into the thorax occurs, however it is the concomitant pulmonary hypoplasia and pulmonary hypertension that can be fatal. CDH was first described as an incidental finding at...

Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) is defined by the presence of an orifice in the diaphragm, more often left and posterolateral that permits the herniation of abdominal contents into the thorax. The lungs are hypoplastic and have abnormal vessels that cause respiratory insufficiency and persistent pulmonary hypertension with high mortality. About one third of cases have cardiovascular malfo...

Hiatal Hernia is rarely seen in a neonate. The mode of presentation in the neonatal period can be confused with the possibility of a congenital diaphragmatic hernia and other chest pathologies. The upper gastrointestinal tract contrast study is diagnostic in this disease, but careful viewing of the plain X-ray of the chest can also suggest the diagnosis.
