The forearm intramuscular hemangiomas are increasingly described in the literature. The most common variants are about old children and teenagers. We present the case of a male Japanese patient with a giant inguinal hernia that extended to his knees while standing. A transabdominal pre-peritoneal (TAPP) repair was performed under general anesthesia. Complete reduction of the contents of the hernia was achieved within 2 h 50 min. A blood loss of approximately 700 ml was noted. The patient was discharged from the hospital on post-operative ...
Intra-abdominal Hypertension (IAH) and Abdominal Compartment Syndrome (ACS) are significant causes of morbidity and mortality among critically ill medical, surgical, and paediatric patients (Ivatury et al. 1998; Malbrain et al. 2005; Ejike et al. 2007). IAH/ACS management has evolved significantly in recent years resulting in both improved survival and decreased resource utilisation (Cheatham a...
BACKGROUND Management of the open abdomen is an increasingly common part of surgical practice. The purpose of this review is to examine the scientific background for the use of temporary abdominal closure (TAC) in the open abdomen as a way to modulate the local and systemic inflammatory response, with an emphasis on decompression after abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS). METHODS A review of...
The indications for surgical decompression of abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) are not clearly defined, but undoubtedly some patients benefit from it. In patients without recent abdominal incisions, it can be achieved with full-thickness laparostomy (either midline, or transverse subcostal) or through a subcutaneous linea alba fasciotomy. In spite of the improvement in physiological variabl...
In this report we discuss the clinical management of a giant inguinal hernia (GIH) in Sierra Leone where surgical resources are severely limited. Though possibly not appropriate for more heavily resourced areas, a three-stage repair proved to be effective and safe for the management of this condition. Careful explanation, good planning and staged operations may be needed for the repair of GIH i...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES : Early recognition of abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) is essential, as delay in the diagnosis may induce a negative impact on prognosis. However, there are some evidences suggesting a low level of knowledge concerning ACS in intensive care units (ICU). The aim of this study was to evaluate the intensivist's knowledge on ACS. METHODS We distributed 49 questionna...
There are few reports on abdominal compartment syndrome that are caused by ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Here, a case of a 29 year old woman is reported in which intravesical pressure measurement was useful in the management of severe OHSS that had been complicated by abdominal compartment syndrome. The patient's urinary output and general condition did not improve after the initial...
