Safety-critical systems are pervading all areas of our lives. Accompanying the growth is an increasing level of awareness of the potential dangers involved. As a result, there has been recent realization among researchers that it is important to consider entire systems and their safety characteristics, going beyond individual embedded or real-time system components. This new focus presents an o...

Proof-carrying code is a framework for proving the safety of machine-language programs with a machinecheckable proof. Such proofs have previously defined type-checking rules as part of the logic. We show a universal type framework for proof-carrying code that will allow a code producer to choose a programming language, prove the type rules for that language as lemmas in higher-order logic, then...

Reconfigurable processors pose unique problems for program safety because of their use of computational approaches that are difficult to integrate into traditional program analyses. The combination of proof-carrying code for verification of standard processor machine code and model-checking for array configurations is explored. This combination extends proof-carrying code to provide a context f...

Traceability system is regarded as an effective method to ensure quality safety of agricultural products by countries all over the world. In this study, based on the research of EAN·UCC system, UCC/EAN-128 bar code technology was applied in fruit safety traceability system, coding rule for traceable code was established, and the traceable label for fruit product was designed. By integrating dat...

The project IN-TRA-NET is a proposal for designing a learning environment for specific continuous updating of European professionals and SMEs workers that use electronic and control apparatus. The UPC has developed three applications as a proof of concept, concerning a didactic course, and two monitoring systems for processes and electronic instruments.

This paper examines the use of type-safe linguistic reeection in Haskell, a functional language. Several uses are identiied: providing an extensible system of instance derivation; extending derivation beyond type classes and providing a method for polytypic programming. A preprocessor for Haskell is presented that performs compile-time reeection upon type declarations in source code.

We investigate the performance of Gallager type error-correcting codes for Binary Symmetric Channels, where the code word comprises products of K bits selected from the original message and decoding is carried out utilizing a connectivity tensor with C connections per index. Shannon's bound for the channel capacity is recovered for large K and zero temperature when the code rate K=C is nite. Cl...

Abstraction-Carrying Code (ACC) has recently been proposed as a framework for mobile code safety in which the code supplier provides a program together with an abstraction whose validity entails compliance with a predefined safety policy. The abstraction plays thus the role of safety certificate and its generation is carried out automatically by a fixed-point analyzer. The advantage of providin...

The interactions of real-time tasks with each other and with the environment can be specified in a platform-independent machine language called E code. E code is time safe if it can be scheduled on a given platform so that all its timing constraints are met. For specifying static, dynamic, and conditional schedules, we propose again an executable machine language, called S code. A compiler for ...

We present a simple parametric calculus of processes which exchange open mobile code, that is, code which may contain free variables to be bound by the receiver’s code. Type safety is ensured by a combination of static and dynamic checks. That is, internal consistency of each process is statically verified, by relying on local type assumptions on missing code; then, when code is sent from a pro...
