We report a case of epidermal nevus syndrome involving the brain in which there is chronic occlusion of the left distal internal carotid artery resulting in ipsilateral atrophy. Orbital and cerebellopontine angle cistern lipomas and a wide cortical developmental malformation are associated with the condition. We present MR imaging findings of a patient and discuss features in the context of oth...
A model for production of spasm of the anterior cerebral artery in primates is presented. The model consists of injection of 0.35 cc of fresh blood into the chiasmatic cistern through the optic canal after orbital exenteration. Clinical and angiographical follow-up is possible. The clinical appraisal of acute and chronic changes can be accomplished in the awake animal.
Introduction: The occurrence of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in traumatic brain injury (TBI) is 12% ~ 53% and related to poor outcome (1, 2). Early diagnosis of SAH and active intervention in removing hemorrhage from subarachnoid space is of great significance in the management of acuteTBI. Susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) has been successfully applied in TBI and proved to be 6 times more...
OBJECT The basal vein of Rosenthal (BV) courses from the premesencephalic cistern, through the ambient cistern, and terminates in the quadrigeminal cistern. The aim of this study was to describe and quantitate the surgical anatomy of this structure and specifically to provide landmarks for identifying this vessel along its course. These data may be of use, for example, to surgeons using subtemp...
PURPOSE Previous computational fluid dynamics (CFD) studies have demonstrated that the Chiari malformation is associated with abnormal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow in the cervical part of the subarachnoid space (SAS), but the flow in the SAS of the posterior cranial fossa has received little attention. This study extends previous modelling efforts by including the cerebellomedullary cistern, ...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE CSF volumes in the basal cistern and Sylvian fissure are increased in both idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus and Alzheimer disease, though the differences in these volumes in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus and Alzheimer disease have not been well-described. Using CSF segmentation and volume quantification, we compared the distribution of CSF in idiopathic...
BACKGROUND Cerebral arterial vasospasm leads to delayed cerebral ischemia and constitutes the major delayed complication following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Cerebral vasospasm can be reduced by increased blood clearance from the subarachnoid space. Clinical pilot studies allow the hypothesis that the clearance of subarachnoid blood is facilitated by means of head shaking. A major obst...
Introduction Cerebral dqfects of developmental origin, apart from those involving the nervous parenchyma, are to be found chiefly in the neighbourhood of the roof of the-third ventricle. The complex developmental evolution of the structures in this region may predispose to imperfect development, whether the cause be some variety of damage which impairs development, or. some genetically transmit...
In this article, we sought to build an overview of the implementation cistern program in Brazilian semiarid region, with purpose understanding limits and potential resulting collective learning mechanisms. The relationship between State civil society established process constituted background analysis that was based on categories derived from decolonial senian approaches. It found dismantling C...
