Lymphadenitis and abscess formation are the most common side effects of vaccination with Bacille Calmette Guerin (BCG). The lower the child's age at the time of vaccination, the higher the incidence of BCG lymphadenitis tends to be. Although various therapeutic approaches are in use for the treatment of BCG lymphadenitis, there is no consensus on which of them is optimal. This study aimed to de...
Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. causes olive knot disease that afflicts trees globally. A sensitive and reproducible in vitro pathogenicity bioassay using detached leaf segments was developed after isolation of Psav on KB medium amended with vancomycin, cephalexin cycloheximide. Symptoms were clear under 20X magnification 10 days. This will facilitate rapid screening germplasm collection for resista...
BACKGROUND In this study, we determine the vector competence of Musca domestica with reference to the transmission of susceptible and resistance bacterial strains in hospitals and slaughter house in Sanandaj City, west Iran. METHODS Totally 908 houseflies were collected to isolate bacteria from their external body based on standard procedures.Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed by...
The object of this study was to develop hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) based cephalexin extended release tablet, which can release the drug for six hours in predetermined rate. Twenty-one batches of cephalexin tablets were prepared by changing various physical and chemical parameters, in order to get required theoretical release profile. The influences of HPMC, microcrystalline cellulose ...
This study was conducted in order to characterize the pharmacokinetics of orally administered cephalexin to healthy adult and aged dogs, using a population pharmacokinetic approach. Two hundred and eighty-six cephalexin plasma concentrations obtained from previous pharmacokinetic studies were used. Sex, age, pharmaceutical formulation, and breed were evaluated as covariates. A one-compartment m...
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Nigella sativa and cephalexin in the therapy of experimental bacterial rhinosinusitis. Bacterial rhinosinusitis was induced with Staphylococcus aureus. Rabbits were divided into five groups; control (n = 6), N. sativa 50 mg/ kg/d (n = 6), N. sativa 100 mg/kg/d (n = 6), N. sativa 200 mg/kg/d (n = 6), and cephalexin 20 mg/kg/d (n = 6) groups....
The in vitro activities of five cephalosporin antibiotics against 121 strains of salmonellae were compared. Cefamandole and cefaclor were more potent than cefazolin, and these three drugs were more active than cephalothin and cephalexin.
Bacteria and actinomycetes were screened for esterase enzymes capable of removing the para-nitrobenzyl ester from cephalosporins. An esterase preparation from Bacillus subtilis was used to prepare cephalexin and 7-ADCA from the corresponding para-nitrobenzyl esters.
Two dogs were diagnosed with enterotoxigenic Clostridium perfringens-associated diarrhea. Diarrhea was responsive to antimicrobial therapy, but recurred after treatment was ceased. Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin was present in feces during diarrheic episodes but not when feces were normal. Both dogs responded to a prolonged course of oral cephalexin and dietary modification.
