Carbon monoxide-releasing molecules (CORMs) are a promising class of new antimicrobials, with multiple modes of action that are distinct from those of standard antibiotics. The relentless increase in antimicrobial resistance, exacerbated by a lack of new antibiotics, necessitates a better understanding of how such novel agents act and might be used synergistically with established antibiotics. ...
Lung capillary blood volume (Qc) and the membrane diffusing capacity (Dm) can both be determined from the combined measurement of nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO) transfers using the single-breath method. In ten healthy subjects, no differences was observed between the values of transfer factor of the lungs for carbon monoxide (TLCO) recovered after a 3 s or 9 s breath-holding time (t...
Background: The impact of urban air pollution and temperature changes over health is a growing concern for epidemiologists all over the world and particularly for developing countries where fewer studies have been performed. Aim: The main goal of this paper is to analyze the short term effects of changes in temperature and atmospheric carbon monoxide on daily mortality in Buenos Aires, Argentin...
Fumigation is the most effective method of rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) control available in the United Kingdom. Use of current methods, involving formulations that generate hydrogen cyanide (HCN) or phosphine (PH3) on exposure to moisture, is limited by weather conditions. A carbon monoxide producing cartridge has been developed which can be used independent of weather conditions. The cartri...
A fluorescence chemsensor for carbon monoxide (CO), based on transformation of weakly fluorescent iodide to strong fluorescent amino product upon reacting with CO, shows abilities of quantitative measurement of CO in air at a level of 50-1000 ppm and real-time and on-site monitoring for CO flammation/explosion.
Background and aimsCarbon monoxide poisoning is a major cause of mortality due to gasinhalation. It is more prevalent in winter, because of poor indoor ventilation. The purpose of ourstudy was to evaluate exhaled carbon monoxide of students and to estimate their exposure to this gas.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was performed in winter 2008. The exhaled carbonmonoxide level of 184 students ...
Plasma carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations were measured in 12 patients with sepsis syndrome. CO concentrations were found to be significantly increased in patients compared with those in 30 normal controls. Patients with septic shock had significantly higher plasma CO concentrations than those without shock. Results suggest that CO might play an important role in paediatric sepsis syndrome.
CONTEXT Unintentional carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning causes approximately 2100 deaths in the United States per year, but the use of CO detectors could potentially prevent many of these deaths. OBJECTIVE To describe the epidemiology of potentially preventable unintentional CO poisoning deaths in New Mexico. DESIGN Descriptive analysis. POPULATION STUDIED A total of 136 deaths from CO poiso...
background: forecasting of air pollutants has become a popular topic of environmental research today. for this purpose, the artificial neural network (aan) technique is widely used as a reliable method for forecasting air pollutants in urban areas. on the other hand, the evolutionary polynomial regression (epr) model has recently been used as a forecasting tool in some environmental issues. in ...
