BACKGROUND Calcium chloride solution is an established injectable sterilant in dogs and other mammals. With cat populations a continuing problem, we sought to explore its first use in cats. Six cats per group were injected with 5%, 10% or 20% calcium chloride dihydrate in saline solution with lignocaine hydrochloride, a local anaesthetic. RESULTS At the 60th day post-injection, cat testes wer...

The study was undertaken to evaluate a new method of estimating plasma fibrinogen levels, gravimetrically using calcium chloride in albino rats. The results were compared with the standard method in which thrombin was used as clotting agent and were found to be statistically not significant. Advantages of using calcium chloride instead of thrombin have been discussed.

1. Animals in which experimental myocarditis has been produced and winch are infused with sodium chloride solutions show a marked decrease in the amount of the secretion of urine. This decrease is even more pronounced than that produced when calcium chloride is added to sodium chloride solution. The intestinal fluid which is markedly decreased, and the peritoneal transudate which is increased b...

The effect of calcium chloride (4.0 mg Ca2+/100 g BW) on the calcium metabolism in the hepatic bile system was investigated in intact and thyroparathyroidectomized rats. The administration of calcium did not alter the serum calcium of intact rats but increased it markedly in thyroparathyroidectomized rats. The administration of calcium to intact rats also caused a significant decrease in the li...

Calcium chloride and calcium gluceptate were compared in their ability to increase plasma ionized calcium concentrations ([Ca2+]). To correct a low ionized calcium concentration, each of 10 critically ml of a 10% solution, containing elemental calcium 27 mg ml-1) and calcium gluceptate (20 ml, containing elemental calcium 18 mg ml-1) over a 5-min period in randomized order approximately 6 h apa...

We studied circulatory and metabolic responses of the intestinal circulation to intraarterial infusions of solutions containing calcium chloride or calcium antagonists in anesthetized dogs. Measurements included blood flow to the terminal ileum, arteriovenous oxygen content difference, distribution of radiolabeled microspheres to the mucosal-submucosal compartment and intraluminal pressure. Cal...
