Many Proteobacteria possess LuxI-LuxR-type quorum-sensing systems that produce and detect fatty acyl-homoserine lactone (HSL) signals. The photoheterotroph Rhodopseudomonas palustris is unusual in that it produces and detects an aryl-HSL, p-coumaroyl-HSL, and signal production requires an exogenous source of p-coumarate. A photosynthetic stem-nodulating member of the genus Bradyrhizobium produc...
The distribution of rhcRST genes encoding the type III secretion system (T3SS) in a collection of Bradyrhizobium strains was characterized by PCR and Southern blot hybridization. The polymorphism of the corresponding sequences amplified by PCR was characterized by RFLP and sequencing together with those available in the databank. Genomic group I is characterized by the presence of Bradyrhizobiu...
Bacteria often infect their hosts from environmental sources, but little is known about how environmental and host-infecting populations are related. Here, phylogenetic clustering and diversity were investigated in a natural community of rhizobial bacteria from the genus Bradyrhizobium. These bacteria live in the soil and also form beneficial root nodule symbioses with legumes, including those ...
Bradyrhizobium is a gram negative, symbiotic nitrogen fixer that can form nodules in the roots of leguminous plants. The enzyme nitrogenase is the utmost important component of nitrogen fixing machinery, comprising two proteins, a molydenum-iron protein (MoFe protein) and an iron protein (Fe protein). Since, there is no comprehensive data on the tertiary structure of the nitrogenase iron protei...
Of nine Bradyrhizobium japonicum serogroup 123 strains examined, 44% were found to be restricted for nodulation by cultivar Hill. Nodulation studies with soybean isoline BARC-2 confirmed that the soybean Rj4 allele restricts nodulation by the same serogroup 123 isolates. Immunological analyses indicated that B. japonicum strains in serogroups 123 and 31 share at least one surface somatic antigen.
Bradyrhizobiumsp. Tv2a.2 is an aerobic, motile, Gram-negative, non-spore-forming rod that was isolated from an effective nitrogen-fixing root nodule of Tachigali versicolor collected in Barro Colorado Island of Panama. Here we describe the features of Bradyrhizobiumsp. Tv2a.2, together with high-quality permanent draft genome sequence information and annotation. The 8,496,279 bp high-quality dr...
In combination with variable-composition evolutionary algorithm calculations and first-principles calculations, we have systematically searched for all the stable compounds and their crystal structures in the extensively investigated binary Mn-B system. Our results have uncovered four viable ground-state compounds, with Mn2B, MnB, and MnB4, and previously never reported MnB3 and two metastable ...
Rhizobitoxine production in Agrobacterium tumefaciens C58 by Bradyrhizobium elkanii rtxACDEFG genes.
We examined the genetic basis and transfer for production of rhizobitoxine, an inhibitor of ethylene biosynthesis in plants, directed by the rtx genes of Bradyrhizobium elkanii. Comparison with genome sequences of Bradyrhizobium japonicum and Xanthomonas oryzae suggests that the rtx genes extend from the previously identified rtxAC genes through four additional genes rtxDEFG. Reverse transcript...
