In this syudy a continuous bovine kidney cell line derived from a primary bovine kidney cells was established for the first time in Iran. The cells were originating from two-day-old normal male calf of Holstein breed. The cell cultures were continuously passaged following complete proliferation of primary cells. The specific properties or characteristics of the cell were defined using cytogenet...
Microneutralization tests for detection of antibody in bovine serum to three bovine viruses are described. The Madin-Darby bovine kidney cell line was used with parainfluenza 3 virus (PI 3), whereas serially cultivated bovine embryonic kidney cells were used for infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus and bovine virus diarrhea virus. Comparison of micro-hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) with mic...
Three different high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) techniques, i.e. affinity, ion exchange, and gel filtration chromatography, have been used to purify polyclonal antibodies from bovine serum. Polyclonal antibodies were obtained from animals infected with bovine leukaemia virus, which was confirmed by AGID and ELISA tests. Precipitation of the antibodies by ammonium sulphate prior t...
The purpose of this study is to identify and analyse the putative promoter motifs in the bovine herpes virus which causes several diseases in cattle worldwide including bovine mastitis with large economic impact on dairy industry. Bovine mastitis caused due to virus is often neglected as bacterial infections are held mainly responsible for the disease. Therefore, in this in silico investigation...
Two different viruses were isolated from bovine embryonic cell cultures after two subcultures from the primary cells. One virus was identified as parainfluenza type 2 simian virus 5 (SV-5), and the other was identified as infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus. Six months later, stock cultures of pig kidney (PK-15) cells were found to be contaminated with SV-5 virus. We believe that the source...
The authors describe the history of enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL) in Estonia, including the occurrence and distribution of disease within the cattle population, and the factors which have influenced disease spread since the 1950s. The principles of various control schemes which were applied from 1960 to 1994 are also surveyed. Considerable progress in eradicating EBL has been achieved during r...
The OK 10 virus complex was isolated from a liver tumour of a chicken which, as an embryo, had been inoculated intravenously with a field isolate of an avian leukosis virus. The OK 10 virus complex contains at least two viruses: the interference assay and serum neutralization test indicate that the helper virus belongs to subgroup A. One of the viruses, OK 10 V, induces distinct foci in chick e...
The artificial fusion of cells of different type and species, for the formation of heterokaryons and hybrid cells, is now widely used, since Harris and Watkins (1965) demonstrated the practicality of this technique, with Sendai virus as a fusing agent. A variety of viruses show fusing properties (Poste, 1972)) but in most artificial systems Sendai virus (parainfluenza virus type 1) has been use...
Bovine viral diarrhea virus can cause acute disease in livestock, leading to economic losses. We show that Prostaglandin A1 inhibits bovine viral diarrhea virus replication in Madin-Darby bovine kidney cells (94% inhibition using 5μg/mL). Light and electron microscopy of infected cells shows that Prostaglandin A1 also prevents virus-induced vacuolization, but at higher concentrations (10μg/mL).
