© 2009 American Institute of Physics, S-0031-9228-0909-020-6 Quantum phenomena that were once thought to limit measurement capabilities are now being harnessed to enhance them and to improve the sensitivity of nanometer-size devices. Persistent questioning and probing of quantum phenomena has yielded many such advances. However, the Aharonov–Bohm effect, a modern cornerstone of quantum mechanic...

It is shown that the retarded Bohm’s theory has at l east four novel properties. (1) The center of mass of an isolated two-body system is accelerated. (2) Hydrogen-like atoms are unstable. (3) The distribution function differs from the standard one. (4) The definition of energy needs some care.

I present a new interpretation of the Aharonov–Bohm by identifying an overlooked physical field: the current field. The interpretation is non-arbitrary, completely local, deterministic, and separable. I then consider the connection between theoretical methodology and fundamental ontology by considering Earman’s call to consider gauge matters. I conclude that we should be clear about which gauge...

We re-examine the claim made by Englert, Scully, Süssman and Walther that in certain ‘Welcher Weg’ (Which Way) interference experiments, the Bohm trajectories behave in such a bizarre and unacceptable way that they must be considered as unreliable and even ‘surreal’. We show that this claim cannot be correct and is based on an incorrect use of the Bohm approach.

We prove semi-classical estimates on moments of eigenvalues of the Aharonov-Bohm operator in bounded two-dimensional domains. Moreover, we present a counterexample to the generalized diamagnetic inequality which was proposed by Erdős, Loss and Vougalter. Numerical studies complement these results.

We point out that the spreading of wave packets could be significant in affecting the analysis of experiments involving the measurement of time of decay. In particular, we discuss a hitherto unexplored application of the Bohm model in properly taking into account the nontrivial effect of wave packet spreading in the CP violation experiment. The idea, formulated for the first time by Pauli, of a “creativity” of natural processes on a quantum scale is briefly investigated, with particular reference to the phenomena, common throughout the biological world, involved in the amplification of microscopic “creative” events at macroscopic level. The involvement of non-locality is also discussed with reference to the synordering of events, ...
