Human milk contains a high concentration of complex oligosaccharides that influence the composition of the intestinal microbiota in breast-fed infants. Previous studies have indicated that select species such as Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis and Bifidobacterium bifidum can utilize human milk oligosaccharides (HMO) in vitro as the sole carbon source, while the relatively few B. longum s...
tet(W) was found responsible for tetracycline resistance (MICs, 4 to > or =32 microg ml(-1)) in dominant bifidobacterial species from the gastrointestinal tracts of healthy humans. The gene from Bifidobacterium longum H66 proved to be identical over a 2.6-kbp region to the recently described tet(W) determinant of Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens.
This work describes the draft genome of Parascardovia denticolens IPLA 20019, isolated from human milk. This species, usually isolated from caries lesions, is taxonomically related to the genus Bifidobacterium. The genetic information of IPLA 20019 enhances our understanding of the adaptation of this P. denticolens strain from human breast milk.
The complete genome sequence of Bifidobacterium kashiwanohense strain PV20-2, an infant feces isolate, was determined using single-molecule real-time sequencing (SMRT). Hierarchical genome assembly resulted in a completely assembled genome of 2,370,978 bp. The B. kashiwanohense PV20-2 genome is the first completely sequenced and assembled genome of the species.
Our previous report showed the existence of microaerophilic Bifidobacterium species that can grow well under aerobic conditions rather than anoxic conditions in a liquid shaking culture. The difference in the aerobic growth properties between the O(2)-sensitive and microaerophilic species is due to the existence of a system to produce H(2)O(2) in the growth medium. In this study, we purified an...
Breast milk is important for infant health. Some of its benefits are due to the presence a specific population bacteria in microflora. However, microbiome breast influenced by many parameters such as maternal diet, breastfeeding and geographic location. Culture non-culture methods have been used studies this bacterial worldwide. But DR Congo, there was no study reporting use culture-independent...
We report the genome sequences of four isolates of a human gut symbiont, Bifidobacterium longum. Strains 44B and 35B were isolated from two 1-year-old infants, while 1-6B and 2-2B were isolated from the same children 5 years later. The sequences permit investigations of factors enabling long-term colonization of bifidobacteria.
Probiotics are widely used in different forms of food or supplements due to their health benefits. consumption has seen an increase over the years. The main species probiotic products Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, along with other such as Bacillus. Generally, microorganisms accepted safe even though they resistant several antibiotics. Some strains intrinsic antibiotic resistance may be ben...
