We show that recombinases form joint molecules over very short regions of homology. When these molecules are deproteinized the three strands are in a structure that is surprisingly resistant to dissociation by branch migration, even at elevated temperatures. The joint molecules dissociate at temperatures comparable to those required to melt DNA duplexes of the same length and sequence. We also ...

Two similar phage-like plasmids carrying CTX-M-15 resistance cassettes were identified from two environmental Escherichia coli isolates. They demonstrate strong nucleotide sequence identity to the phage-like plasmid pECOH89 and Salmonella bacteriophage SSU5.

We introduce and numerically study a model designed to mimic the bulk behaviour of a system composed of single-stranded DNA dendrimers. Complementarity of the base sequences of different strands results in the formation of strong cooperative intermolecular links. We find that in an extremely narrow temperature range the system forms a large-scale, low-density disordered network via a thermo-rev...

This study presents the complete nucleotide sequence of Anabaena sp. ATCC 33047 (Anabaena CA), a filamentous, nitrogen-fixing marine cyanobacterium, which under salt stress conditions accumulates sucrose internally. The elucidation of the genome will contribute to the understanding of cyanobacterial diversity.

We report here the sequence of a new benyvirus found through mango cultivar Shelly RNA-seq analysis in Israel. This is the first virus strain reported in mango trees.

Recently, we presented ContextMap (Bonfert et al., 2012), a novel approach to mapping RNA-seq reads based on the concept of a so-called read context. A context is defined as a set of reads all originating from the same stretch of the genome, indicating that they all correspond to transcripts of the same gene. The original implementation we presented was focused on refining initial mappings prov...

Sphingobium sp. strain SYK-6 is able to grow on an extensive variety of lignin-derived biaryls and monoaryls, and the catabolic genes for these compounds are useful for the production of industrially valuable metabolites from lignin. Here we report the complete nucleotide sequence of the SYK-6 genome which consists of the 4,199,332-bp-long chromosome and the 148,801-bp-long plasmid.

The generation time of HIV Type 1 (HIV-1) in vivo has previously been estimated using a mathematical model of viral dynamics and was found to be on the order of one to two days per generation. Here, we describe a new method based on coalescence theory that allows the estimate of generation times to be derived by using nucleotide sequence data and a reconstructed genealogy of sequences obtained ...
