We study the stability of collective amplitude excitations in nonequilibrium polariton condensates. These excitations correspond to renormalized upper polaritons and to the collective amplitude modes of atomic gases and superconductors. They would be present following a quantum quench or could be created directly by resonant excitation. We show that uniform amplitude excitations are unstable to...
We study stripes in cuprates within the one-band and the three-band Hubbard model. Magnetic and charge excitations are described within the time-dependent Gutzwiller approximation. A variety of experiments (charge profile from resonant soft X-ray scattering, incommensurability vs. doping, optical excitations, magnetic excitations, etc.) are described within the same approach.
A simple method to canonically quantize noncommutative field theories is proposed. As a result, the elementary excitations of a (2n + 1)-dimensional scalar field theory are shown to be bilocal objects living in an (n + 1)-dimensional space-time. Feynman rules for their scattering are derived canonically. They agree, upon suitable redefinitions, with the rules obtained via star-product methods. ...
We investigate theoretically the collective excitations of trapped Bose condensates with energies of the order of the chemical potential of the system. For the MIT sodium Bose condensate in a Cloverleaf trap, we find interesting level crossing behavior for high energy excitations and calculate the spatial magnetic dipole moments for selective creation of condensate excitations.
We study (d − 1)-dimensional excitations in the d-dimensional color code that are created by transversal application of the Rd phase operators on connected subregions of qubits. We find that such excitations are the superpositions of electric charges and can be characterized by the fixed-point wave functions of (d − 1)dimensional bosonic symmetry-protected topological (SPT) phases with (Z2)⊗d s...
We predict a new class of excitations propagating along a Josephson vortex in two-dimensional Josephson junctions. These excitations are associated with the distortion of a Josephson vortex line and have an analogy with shear waves in solid mechanics. Their shapes can have an arbitrary profile, which is retained when propagating. We derive a universal analytical expression for the energy of arb...
High-resolution, inelastic neutron scattering measurements on SrCu2(BO3)2, a realization of the Shastry-Sutherland model for two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnets, reveal the dispersion of the three single triplet excitations continuously across the (H,0) direction within its tetragonal basal plane. These measurements also show distinct Q dependencies for the single and multiple triplet e...
The low-energy properties of one-dimensional quantum liquids are commonly described in terms of the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid theory, in which the elementary excitations are free bosons. To this approximation, the theory can be alternatively recast in terms of free fermions. In both approaches, small perturbations give rise to finite lifetimes of excitations. We evaluate the decay rate of fermi...
