Bacillus cereus strain LCT-BC25, which was carried by the Shenzhou VIII spacecraft, traveled in space for about 398 h. To investigate the response of B. cereus to space environments, we determined the genome sequence of B. cereus strain LCT-BC25, which was isolated after space flight.

Several Bacillus strains isolated from commercial probiotic preparations were identified at the species level, and their adhesion capabilities to three different model intestinal surfaces (mucin, Matrigel and Caco-2 cells) were assessed. In general, adhesion of spores was higher than that of vegetative cells to the three matrices, and overall strain Bacillus cereus(CH) displayed the best adhesi...

AIM To determine the autolytic phenotype of five species in the Bacillus cereus group. METHODS AND RESULTS The autolytic rate of 96 strains belonging to five species in the B. cereus group was examined under starvation conditions at pH 6, 6.5 and 8.5 in different buffers. The autolytic rate was strain-dependent with a wide variability at pH 6, but higher and more uniform at pH 6.5. At pH 8.5,...

Bacillus cereus sensu lato is a species complex that includes the anthrax pathogen Bacillus anthracis and other bacterial species of medical, industrial, and ecological importance. Their phenotypes of interest are typically linked to large plasmids that are closely related to the anthrax plasmids pXO1 and pXO2. Here, we present the draft genome sequences of 94 isolates of B. cereus sensu lato, ...

Strain BCT-7112, previously identified as Bacillus cereus var. toyoi, is the type strain of the species Bacillus toyonensis, a novel species of the B. cereus group. The complete genome of this strain, which is the active ingredient of the feed additive preparation Toyocerin, has been sequenced and annotated to reveal the genetic properties of this probiotic organism with a long history of safe ...

THE MINIMAL LETHAL CONCENTRATION OF OZONE IN WATER WAS DETERMINED FOR THREE BACTERIAL SPECIES: Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, and Bacillus megaterium. A contact period of 5 min was selected. The lethal threshold concentration for the cells of B. cereus was 0.12 mg/liter while that for E. coli and B. megaterium was 0.19 mg/liter. Low concentrations of ozone were ineffective when organic matt...

This paper reports the draft genome sequence of new Bacillus cereus strain tsu1, isolated on an agar-cellulose plate. The draft genome sequence is 5.81 Mb, revealing 5,673 coding sequences. It contains genes for cellulose-degradation and biosynthesis pathways of polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) and 8 rRNA genes (5S, 16S, and 23S).

PURPOSE To present the microbiologic spectrum and susceptibilities of isolates in posttraumatic endophthalmitis, and to provide a review of the literature. DESIGN Retrospective consecutive case series. METHODS A review of 1182 consecutive open globe injuries was performed, identifying 10 patients with culture-proven endophthalmitis. RESULTS Thirteen organisms were isolated from 10 eyes wi...

INTRODUCTION Bacillus Cereus endocarditis is a rare condition which has been implicated in intravenous drug users, and in patients with prosthetic heart valves. We report a rare case of Bacillus Cereus infecting a permanent pacing wire. CASE PRESENTATION A 69 year old female with a permanent pacemaker presented with rigors, sweats and weight loss. Blood cultures grew Bacillus Cereus; Transeso...

The aim of the present study was to determine the antimicrobial resistance pattern of bacterial foodborne pathogens and to know the suitable antibiotic in controlling of foodborne pathogens. Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas Sps were tested with twelve antibiotics by disc diffusion method. Among all antibiotic streptomycin, cefpodoxeme...
