In this communication, we report on a new route to the functionalization of ATRP polymers exploiting their halide end-groups, which were converted successfully into reactive disulfide end-groups, using sodium methanethiosulfonate. The resultant disulfide-terminated polymers could then be reacted with different functional thiols to yield functional polymers exploiting either thiol/disulfide exch...

An ATRA based strategy to synthesize vinyl copolymers with monomer-level sequence control is proposed. In each cycle, one allyl alcohol is added to the ATRP chain end, and then the hydroxymethyl residue is oxidized to carboxylic acid and a side group is introduced via esterification, making the new chain end active for the next cycle.

The combination of superior optoelectronic properties and enhanced solubility for regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) (rr-P3HT) has enabled materials based on P3HT to be widely used for organic field-effect transistors, chemical sensors, and photovoltaic solar cells. Significantly, the optoelectronic performance of rr-P3HT thin film has been shown to depend on molecular weight, processing condi...

An acid labile branched PDMAEMA/acetal copolymer with amino group was synthesized by the DE-ATRP and followed by Michael addition. The degradation of the polymer was strongly pH-dependent. High nucleic acid transfection efficiency with low cytotoxicity was observed compared to its non-degradable copolymer counterpart.

An environmentally friendly and controllable P(VDF-co-CTFE) hydrogenation route involving the transition-metal complex mediated radical chain transfer reaction is successfully developed to synthesize P(VDF-co-CTFE-co-TrFE). The typical transition metal catalysts of ATRP reaction could be applied in this process.

An ABA type amphiphilic triblock copolymer was synthesized via ATRP and sulfonation. New self-assembled morphologies such as toroidal vesicles, giant tubular vesicles, and perforated spherical vesicles were observed from triblock copolymer-polyaniline complexes in water. The mechanism of morphology transformation at different compositions was discussed.

The scale-up of Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP) from 15 mL to L (scale-up factor 1000) by galvanostatic simplified electrochemically mediated ATRP (seATRP) is disclosed. An electrochemical O2 scavenging cycle was embedded in the equilibrium allow self-degassing mixture and avoid impractical deoxygenation procedures. Low volume seATRP acrylamide water optimized studying various react...

In this study, we compare poly(glycerol monomethacrylate) (PGMA) of different chain lengths and architectures (linear two-arm) with poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) (PPEGMA) as an alternative polymer platform for the synthesis a new generation protein–polymer conjugates. Mono- two-arm functional atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) initiators were designed selectivel...

Hybrid Fe(3)O(4)@SiO(2)@PEG-Maltose MNPs were synthesized by SI-ATRP of branched PEG brushes on the surface and subsequent functionalization with hydrophilic maltose group, and the multifunctional materials were utilized for selective enrichment of N-linked glycopeptides from biological samples with high specifity, high sensitivity, and large binding capacity.

This review covers the literature concerning the modification of polysaccharides through controlled radical polymerizations (NMP, ATRP and RAFT). The different routes to well-defined polysaccharide-based macromolecules (block and graft copolymers) and graft-functionalized polysaccharide surfaces as well as the applications of these polysaccharide-based hybrids are extensively discussed.
