Simultaneously with a control of breeding sites primarily for Culex quinquefasciatus and secondarily for anophelines with Bacillus sphaericus in the town of Maroua (120,000 inhabitants) in North Cameroon, a survey of anopheline populations and of transmission rates of malaria was performed. Monthly night catches in 8 districts of the town emphasized the relation between the biting rate by Anoph...

New findings of Anopheles mosquitoes in artificial containers are reported. In one, a plastic container served as a breeding place for Anopheles bellator larvae and, in another, four instar larvae of An. albitarsis s.l. were found in an abandoned toilet basin. Reflections are offered as to the selective pressure represented by the production, of an ever increasing scale, of disposable objects.

The selective breeding of rats as physiological, behavioral, and disease models generated a wealth of variation relevant to the genetics of complex traits. In this issue, Atanur and colleagues sequence the genomes of 25 inbred rat strains to understand how artificial selection shaped their genomes.

The present study was conducted to assess the availability of Black Bengal breeding bucks in five districts from the Northern part (Lalmonirhat and Rangpur), Central part (Tangail and Mymensingh) and Southern part (Khulna) of Bangladesh and also to explore the relationship between distance of does from these breeding bucks and type of scarcity. The data were collected using a pre-tested questio...

Rediscovered in the wild twenty years ago, the breeding biology of wild Blue-throated Macaws remains largely unexplored, yet is essential to its effective conservation and recovery. Here, we analyse reproductive parameters in an intensively managed wild population of Blue-throated Macaws, providing the first data on the breeding biology of this critically endangered species. During the six-year...

in the software development process, testing is one of the most human intensive steps. many researchers try to automate test case generation to reduce the manual labor of this step. negative selection is a famous algorithm in the field of artificial immune system (ais) and many different applications has been developed using its idea. in this paper we have designed a new algorithm based on nega...

Studies of wild populations have provided important insights into the effects of artificial light at night on organisms, populations and ecosystems. However, in most studies the exact amount of light at night individuals are exposed to remains unknown. Individuals can potentially control their nighttime light exposure by seeking dark spots within illuminated areas. This uncertainty makes it dif...
