In this paper, the duality of erasures and defects will be investigated by comparing the binary erasure channel (BEC) and the binary defect channel (BDC). The duality holds for channel capacities, capacity achieving schemes, minimum distances, and upper bounds on the probability of failure to retrieve the original message. Also, the binary defect and erasure channel (BDEC) will be introduced by...

This paper presents a new model to detect and explain customer defection in a grocery retail context. This new model analyzes the evolution of each customer basket content. It therefore provides actionable knowledge for the retailer at an individual scale. In addition, this model is able to identify customers that are likely to defect in the future months.

Scattering of 15N ions with the energy of Elab = 23 MeV on the CH2(Au) target is investigated.  Elastic scattering of these ions in the angular range of 7°-19° was measured by employing the silicon strip detector, “LEDA”. Using the measured scattering data, deviation of ion beam, number of incident ions on the target and differential cross sections of the 12C(15N, 15N)12C elastic scattering in ...

Parameterization of 3D manifold mesh data involves embedding the mesh in some natural parametric domain, such as the plane or the sphere. Parameterization is important for many applications in geometry processing, including texture mapping, remeshing and morphing. The main objective is to generate a bijective mapping between the mesh surface and the parametric domain, which minimizes the distor...

We have proposed and demonstrated a scalable efficient scheme for programmable unitary operations in orbital angular momentum (OAM) domain. Based on matrix decomposition into diagonal Fourier factors, arbitrary operators can be implemented only by matrices alternately acting domain azimuthal angle domain, which are linked transform. With numerical simulations, with dimensionality of 3*3 designe...

An important parameter of MIMO channel models is the cluster root-mean-square (rms) directional spread. We introduce a novel method to estimate cluster rms spreads from measurements. We use the SAGE algorithm to extract propagation paths, from which we define clusters in the angular domain, and subsequently estimate the cluster spreads based solely on propagation paths within the clusters. To c...

The coercive field and angular dependence of the coercive field of single-grain Nd2Fe14B permanent magnets are computed using finite element micromagnetics. It is shown that the thickness of surface defects plays a critical role in determining the reversal process. For small defect thicknesses reversal is heavily driven by nucleation, whereas with increasing defect thickness domain wall de-pinn...

We observed in §2.1 that if the propagation distance z is small, then the propagation problem may be accurately and efficiently solved in the Fourier domain. This is not a new observation—see, e.g., [16, 14]—so our objective here is simply to demonstrate how this propagation method (the so-called angular spectrum method) can be implemented using the quadratures from Theorem 2 to ensure any user...

ARCHEOPS is a balloon–borne instrument dedicated to measuring cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature anisotropies at high angular resolution (∼ 12 arcmin.) over a large fraction (30%) of the sky in the (sub)millimetre domain (from 143 to 545 GHz). We describe the results obtained during the last flight: the ARCHEOPS estimate of the CMB angular power spectrum linking for the first time CO...

Detection of non-scattering domains (voids) is an area of active research in biomedical optics. To avoid complexities of image reconstruction algorithms and requirements of a priori knowledge of void locations inherent to diffuse optical tomography (DOT), it would be useful to establish specific experimental signatures of voids that would help identify and detect them by other means. To address...
