Dillapiol was isolated from the essential oil of dill as a specific inhibitor of aflatoxin G1 production. It inhibited aflatoxin G1 production by Aspergillus parasiticus with an IC50 value of 0.15 microM without inhibiting aflatoxin B1 production or fungal growth. Apiol and myristicin, congeners of dillapiol, showed similar activity with IC50 values of 0.24 and 3.5 microM, respectively.

DILL, L. M., and HOUTMAN, R. 1989. The influence of distance to refuge on flight initiation distance in the gray squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis). Can. J. Zool . 67: 233 235. Gray squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) typically run to the nearest tree to escape from predators they encounter while foraging on the ground. As the risk of capture increases with distance from the refuge tree, squirrels fe...

Reenement and abstraction are essential operations used in the design of actual systems, real-time or not. We generalize these concepts to sequences of timed actions which are widely used as semantics of real-time behaviors. We obtain two natural, but quite diierent, notions of reenement and abstraction for timed languages depending on whether a timed action is regarded as an action with a dura...

It was observed that within the Bieri-Dill-Heilbronner-Schmelzer model for the calculation of the ionization energies of alkanes CnH2n+2, there are exactly n C2s-electron energy levels lying below the degenerate – manifold. We now show that, indeed, this regularity is obeyed by practically all alkane species. Exceptions do exist, but they must possess a (chemically infeasible) group of more tha...

Background & Aim: In recent years using from plant product has been considered wildly as main factor for preventing pathogenic diseases cassed by attacking viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. There are some funguses which could be the factors for affliction of some diseases in human, plants and animals. Plant extracts are those which could act and be used as preventing from these diseases a...

This introduction to the special issue of EASTS begins with a survey of recent social scientific work on medicine and healing in Tibetan and Himalayan societies. The author considers the specificity of the Tibetan encounter with biomedicine in comparison with that experienced by other traditions of Asian medicine and introduces both the traditional Tibetan medical system (Sowa Rigpa) and the wi...

Among the many achievements of the twentieth century the accelerating development of microprocessors and their capabilities is one of the most impressive accomplishments, influencing virtually every aspect of daily life. The impact of this new technological resource was (and still is) of particular importance for theoretical approaches in science and engineering. Although many theories (Schrödi...

Exhaustive hydro-distillation of the leaves of Piper aduncum and fruits of Piper gibbilimbum (Piperaceae) afforded colorless and pale orange colored oils in 0.35 and 0.30 % yields, respectively. Detailed chemical analysis by GC/MS indicated the volatile constituents of Piper aduncum to be composed of dill apiole (43.3%), beta-caryophyllene (8.2%), piperitione (6.7%) and alpha-humulene (5.1%), w...

A method for sequence optimization in protein models is presented. The approach, which has inherited its basic philosophy from recent work by Deutsch and Kurosky @Phys. Rev. Lett. 76, 323 ~1996!# by maximizing conditional probabilities rather than minimizing energy functions, is based upon a different and very efficient multisequence Monte Carlo scheme. By construction, the method ensures that ...
