Investigations of preclinical biomarkers for major depressive disorder (MDD) encompass the quantification of proteins, peptides, mRNAs, or small molecules in blood or urine of animal models. Most studies aim at characterising the animal model by including the assessment of analytes or hormones affected in depressive patients. The ultimate objective is to validate the model to better understand ...

Laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS) on porous silicon is a promising analytical strategy for the rapid detection of metabolites in biological matrices. We show that both oxidized and unoxidized porous silicon surfaces are useful in detecting protonated/deprotonated molecules from compounds when analyzed in mixtures. We demonstrate the feasibility of using this technique for t...

With GC-MS as the preferred method and isotopically labeled analogs (ILAs) of the analytes as the internal standards (ISs) of choice for quantitative determination of drugs/metabolites in biological specimens, one important aspect associated with chemical derivatization (CD) is that the CD products derived from the analyte and the selected IS must generate ions suitable for designating the anal...

Mathematical algorithms offer a useful method for quantitative analysis of compounds in multi-component mixtures to overcome the overlapping problems occurred in UV spectrophotometry. The aim of this study is to develop a method to determine the bioactive compounds in herbal dosage forms produced from fenugreek extract. A UV- spectrophotometric method based on mathematical algorithm was used to...

Thin films (4-150 nm) of metallic LiMo3Se3 nanowires respond to chemical vapors of molecular analytes (2-400 mTorr) with rapid (<20 s) and mostly reversible changes of their resistance (DeltaR/R0 approximately 1-70%). Measurements show that the effect is concentration-dependent, and that it depends on the molecular properties of the analytes.

Chemometric method such as cluster and principal component analyses applied for alkanes C6-C10 detection in the air. To increase piezosensor selectivity to analytes L-apiezon is applied as active modifier. It is shown that processing of piezosensor signals to analytes with cluster and principal component analyses allows to refer (to identify) substance to the appropriate alkane (hexane, heptane...

PURPOSE Aqueous humor is intimately related to the cells of the anterior and posterior chambers, which affect its composition. Aqueous analysis provides useful information regarding physiological and pathophysiological processes in the eye. Human aqueous samples are typically less than 100 microl, limiting the usefulness of the analysis with traditional Enzyme-Linked immunoSorbant Assay (ELISA)...

PURPOSE Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays a key role in neovascularization by stimulating the proliferation and migration of vascular endothelial cells. The anti-VEGF therapy bevacizumab acts by binding to VEGF and preventing its effects. However, this linear interaction represents only a partial view of the pathobiology of neovascular diseases and the anti-VEGF treatment. To obta...
