We report here a very rare case of primary meningococcal arthritis of the knee joint without clinical features associated with meningococcemia, meningitis, or meningococcal complications. The patient suffered from diabetes mellitus and had experienced two episodes of joint trauma. Intravenous infusion of ampicillin/sulbactam for 18 consecutive days was successful.

BACKGROUND The recommendations outlined in the latest guidelines published by the Surgical Infection Society (SIS) and the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) regarding the proper duration of antibiotic therapy in patients with intra-abdominal infections are limited and non-specific. This ambiguity is due mainly to the lack of clinical trials on the topic of optimal duration of therapy...

In vitro surveys of antimicrobial resistance among clinically important anaerobes are an important source of information that can be used for clinical decisions in the choice of empiric antimicrobial therapy. This study surveyed the susceptibilities of 556 clinical anaerobic isolates from four large medical centers using a broth microdilution method. Piperacillin-tazobactam was the only antimic...

BACKGROUND A number of studies have reported on the effectiveness of sulbactam-based therapies for Acinetobacter baumannii infection; however, there is little evidence that sulbactam-based therapies are more or less effective than alternative therapies. Unfortunately, there is a distinct lack of high quality data (i.e., from randomized controlled trials) available on this issue. Therefore, we c...

The aim of this study was to analyze the susceptibility trends to seven antibiotics of Bacteroides fragilis group isolates based on three survey studies performed by the Committee of Anaerobic Bacteria between 1989 and 2002. Fifty three, 82 and 65 B. fragilis group isolates were collected during each period. The antimicrobial agents included were: ampicillin, ampicillin-sulbactam (2:1), cefoxit...

We herein report a rare case of Clostridium paraputrificum bacteremia in an elderly (88-year-old) man without a predisposing medical condition. Although he had a history of anaerobic bacteremia approximately eight months prior to admission, no gastrointestinal disease was discovered. He was treated with intravenous ampicillin/sulbactam. This case suggests that C. paraputrificum bacteremia can r...

Objective: The aim of our study was to describe the species distribution and changes in resistance profile anaerobic bacteria isolated at Tartu University Hospital. Methods: data for 2010, 2016 2020 were analysed retrospectively. strains identified by Vitek2 (2010) MALDI-TOF MS (2016, 2020); MIC values antibiotics determined using gradient tests. Resistance interpreted EUCAST breakpoints. Resul...

Background:  Sphingomonas paucimobilis is a gram-negative pathogen that causes urinary tract infections, diarrhea, septicemia, and wound infections. Due to the spread of patients with high mortality but low in Sphingomonas paucimobilis, it has been isolated from different clinical samples increasing antibiotic resistance all over world.   Objectives: The aim our research was look at e...
