The aim of the investigation was to describe the incidence of Aeromonas bacteremia in a city with a population of about 1.87 million inhabitants, located in southern Taiwan, between 2008 and 2010. Such data were compared with the incidences of Vibrio and Salmonella bacteremia in the same period and the incidence of Aeromonas bacteremia in other countries in the literature. The data revealed the...
Aeromonas hydrophila is a low-virulence gram-negative bacillus. It has never been reported as a pathogen of non-traumatic acute osteomyelitis in a cirrhotic patient. Herein, we reported on a case of decompensated liver cirrhosis with Aeromonas hydrophila infection presenting as acute gastroenteritis and non-traumatic acute osteomyelitis. It has been shown that Aeromonas bacteremia usually affec...
Amikacin is a first-line treatment for Aeromonas infection due to high efficacy. There are few reports of aminoglycoside-resistant Aeromonas spp. We report a soft tissue infection containing multiple pathogens, including a strain of Aeromonas hydrophila resistant to amikacin, tobramycin, and multiple cephalosporins.
Phenotypic and genetic studies were performed on some atypical aeromonas strains of uncertain taxonomic position. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that these strains represent a hitherto unknown genetic line within the genus Aeromonas, for which the name Aeromonas allosaccharophila sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CECT 4199.
The genus Aeromonas has been described as comprising several species associated with the aquatic environment, which represents their principal reservoir. Aeromonas spp. are commonly isolated from diseased and healthy fish, but the involvement of such bacteria in human infection and gastroenteritis has frequently been reported. The primary challenge in establishing an unequivocal link between th...
background: aeromonas spp. can cause diarrhea and various infections in humans. access to rapid techniques with a high sensitivity and specificity is strongly needed for the identification of aeromonas species. the aim of this study was to evaluate two different methods including api 20e bacterial identification tests and the molecular detection using pcr primers specific for 16s-rrna and 23s-...

The role of Aeromonas spp. in a variety of human illnesses has been well documented during the last decades. The spectrum of infectious diseases caused by Aeromonas species includes gastrointestinal and extraintestinal infections. Aeromonas gastrointestinal infections are generally self-limiting and antibiotic therapy is unnecessary. However, for gastrointestinal infections in immunocompromised...
The members of the Aeromonas genus are ubiquitous, water-borne bacteria. They have been isolated from marine waters, rivers, lakes, swamps, sediments, chlorine water, water distribution systems, drinking water and residual waters; different types of food, such as meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, and processed foods. Aeromonas strains are predominantly pathogenic to poikilothermic animals, and t...
Aeromonas hydrophila is a well-known waterborne pathogen that recently was found to infect humans. Here, we report the draft genome of a freshwater isolate from a Malaysian waterfall, A. hydrophila strain M023, which portrays N-acylhomoserine lactone-dependent quorum sensing.
