We present a preterm (32 weeks; weight 1300 g) neonate, with solitary hepatic abscess. The causative organism was Klebsiella. The child presented with septicemia, hepatomegaly and abdominal lump. Radiological investigations were inconclusive. Surgical drainage and prolonged antibiotic treatment led to resolution of the hepatic abscess.

A 64 years diabetic man presented with recurrent episodes of fever and abdominal pain. Ultrasonography revealed the presence of an abscess in the right lobe of the liver and a distended gall bladder with multiple calculi. Salmonella typhi was grown from the liver aspirate. Cholelithiasis may act as a predisposing factor for hepatic abscess formation in Salmonella carriers.

Psoas abscess in neonates and infants are rare. Primary psoas abscesses are said to be more common in young children. Limping, fever and abdominal pain has been described to be the way psoas abscesses usually present. The authors describe the unusual presentation and successful treatment of a young child with a unilateral psoas abscess secondary to advanced spondylodiscitis.
