The droplet burning characteristics of binary blends of iso-octane, n-heptane and toluene were studied in an ambience that minimizes external convection and promotes spherical droplet flames. The results are compare...

A comparison of the (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance chemical shifts of some 15,16-dialkyl-15,16-dihydropyrenes with the corresponding 15,16-dialkyl-2,7,15,16-tetrahydropyrenes provides a measure of the effect of ring current on carbon-13 chemical shifts in which other effects may be expected to be negligibly small. The general conclusion is that the absolute magnitude of the ring-current effec...

The commercially available monoterpene carvone has been efficiently converted into the tricyclo[3.2.1.0(2.7)]octane and bicyclo[3.2.1]octane systems characteristic of some biologically active compounds. The sequence used for this transformation involves as key features an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction of a 5-vinyl-1,3-cyclohexadiene and a cyclopropane ring opening.

p-silylated n,n-dialkyl amines (5) were easily synthesized in good to excellent yield from aldehydes (1), trimethylsilyldialkylamines (2), and trimethylsilylmethylmagnesium chloride (4) in the presence of 5 m lithium perchlorate solution in diethyl ether. the reaction of (2) with aldehyde proceeded smoothly in the lici0 , to give the imimum salt (3). addition of trimethylsilylmethylrnagnesium c...

The capability of a cell bound biosurfactant produced by Lactobacillus pentosus, to accelerate the bioremediation of a hydrocarbon-contaminated soil, was compared with a synthetic anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulphate SDS-). The biosurfactant produced by the bacteria was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) that clearly indicates the presence of OH and NH groups, C=O...
