A patient with carpal tunnel syndrome in association with congenital hypertrophy of right upper limb is described. The median nerve also showed hypertrophy. The symptoms were relieved by decompression of the carpal tunnel.
A case of the carpal tunnel syndrome is described which occurred simultaneously with congestive cardiac failure. As the cardiac failure responded to treatment the carpal tunnel syndrome improved dramatically.
The carpal tunnel was investigated by high-resolution computed tomographic (CT) scanning of two cadavers, two healthy persons, and 20 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome to outline normal and pathologic anatomy. The following changes leading to median nerve compression in the carpal canal were demonstrated by CT: (1) thickening of the transverse carpal ligament with resultant decrease in the v...
Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common focal mono-neuropathy. A study was designed to compare the effects of traditional open carpal tunnel release with median neurolysis and Z-plasty reconstruction of the transverse carpal ligament on post-operative hand pain and hand function in patients with idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome. Methods: Fifty-two patients with idiopathi...
This report describes three patients with reflex sympathetic dystrophy complicating carpal tunnel syndrome. Pain disproportionate and more diffuse than that commonly associated with carpal tunnel syndrome suggested the associated diagnosis in each patient and facilitated prompt management.
Introduction The median nerve courses through the carpal tunnel before entering the hand. Numerous descriptions of this pathway exist [1, 2], which state that the terminal branches of the median nerve bifurcate into radial and ulnar divisions, at the distal border of the transverse carpal ligament. Several variants exist and have been documented. Some variations describe the course of the thena...
1024x768 normal 0 false false false en-us x-none fa background : carpal tunnel syndrome (cts) is the most prevalent form of peripheral neuropathy. the efficacy of acupuncture in management of mild to moderate cts has been investigated in limited studies with controversial results. the aim of this study was to assess the short-term effects of acupuncture in treatment of mild to moderate carpal t...
background: today application of computer in the life of people is very common and those who work with computer in especially long – term are faced with musculoskeletal pains. the aim of this study was to investigate risk factors of musculoskeletal and joint pains among computer users in rafsanjan city in the years 2012-13. materials and methods: in this descriptive study, 420 computer users we...
BACKGROUND Although cubital tunnel syndrome is the second most common peripheral mononeuropathy (after carpal tunnel syndrome) encountered in clinical practice, its prevalence in the population is unknown. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of cubital tunnel syndrome in the general population. METHODS We surveyed a cohort of adult residents of the St. Louis metropolita...
It is known that the major slowing of nerve conduction in the carpal tunnel syndrome occurs in the palm to wrist segment. A technique exploiting this fact and easily applicable in the routine laboratory would be useful in diagnosing early examples of the condition. To this end, orthodromic sensory potentials from stimulation of digits II and V, and of the palmar branches of the median and ulnar...
