We report on the status of our search for Xray afterglows of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) using the ROSAT all-sky survey (RASS) data. The number of potential X-ray afterglow candidates with respect to the expected number of beamed GRBs allows to constrain the relative beaming angles of GRB emission and afterglow emission at about 1-5 hrs after the GRB.

A half-plane probe through a polygon measures the area of intersection between a half-plane and the polygon. We dev elop techniques based on xray probing to determine convex n-gons in 7n + 7 half-plane probes. We also show n + 1 half-plane probes are sufficient to verify a specified convex polygon and prove linear lower bounds for determination and verification.

 The crystal structure of two B-type carbonated apatite samples was re-analyzed, using the data of Wilson et al (2006). By applying the least squares method for the determination of carbon and oxygen atoms, a slightly different result was obtained, suggesting that the carbonate ion is not rigorously planar.
