The development of hydrothermal synthesis has greatly promoted bottom-up nanoscience for the rational growth of diverse zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures. In comparison with normal ZnO nanowires, ZnO nanostructures with a larger surface area, for instance, branched nanowires, are more attractive in the application fields of catalysis, sensing, dye-sensitized solar cells etc. So far the ZnO branch...

ZnO microstructures with various morphologies have been controllably synthesized by hydrothermal route using different precipitant and zinc source in liquid solution. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to characterize the ZnO2, Zn(OH)2 and ZnO structures to understand the role of precipitant and precursors in the growth of various morphologies. The nucleati...

In this work ZnO and Mn-doped ZnO nanocrystals were synthesized by one-step aqueous solution method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) analysis and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy have been used to characterize the samples in detail. The XRD studies revealed that the ZnO and Mn-doped ZnO had wurtzite structure (hexagonal). The composi...

in this study, a novel method called “atmospheric pressure solution evaporation (apse)” wasdeveloped for growing of zinc oxide (zno) nanostructures on al2o3 surface. zinc acetate dihydrate, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and deionized water were used as precursor, capping, and solvent, respectively.the growth of zno nanostructures from evaporated solution was performed at three temperatures of300, 400, ...

The segregation of native defects and Bi impurities to a high-angle grain boundary in ZnO is studied by first-principles calculations. It is found that the presence of Bi(Zn) increases the concentration of native defects of acceptor type in the grain boundary. This leads to the formation of a Bi(Zn)+V(Zn)+O(i) interfacial complex under O-rich conditions and exhibits a localized acceptor state. ...

ZnO nanorods grown by both high temperature vapour phase transport and low temperature chemical bath deposition are very promising sources for UV third harmonic generation. Material grown by both methods show comparable efficiencies, in both cases an order of magnitude higher than surface third harmonic generation at the quartz-air interface of a bare quartz substrate. This result is in stark c...

ZnO was successfully synthesized by a conventional synthetic route using zinc nitrate as a source for ZnO formation. X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis revealed a crystal size of 66 nm of ZnO and a thermal stability of 500 °C. A small amount of ZnO particles was employed as the source for ZnO-rod growth on nylon 6 surfaces. Scanning electron microscope images were taken to evaluat...

ZnO columnar single crystals were formed by pulsed laser ablation in deionized water and surfactant aqueous solutions of lauryl dimethylaminoacetic acid (LDA) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) at 80 degrees C. ZnO particles produced by laser ablation were dissolved at a higher temperature than 60 degrees C, and then crystalline growth to columnar structure proceeded. While large ZnO col...

With the rapid developments in nanotechnology, there has been tremendous interest in ZnO-related nanomaterials because ZnO is a wide band-gap semiconductor and a piezoelectric oxide. As a result, it is useful for optoelectronics, transparent electronics, sensors, and transducers. ZnO crystals have a noncentral symmetric wurtzite structure and are composed of close packed O and Zn2þ layers piled...
