The "one-size-fits-all" approach for radiology workstation design is not good enough anymore. While most of the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) vendors are racing to add more features to the radiology workstation, there is little interest in addressing the specific needs of other hospital departments. Significant delays in the availability of radiology reports are often caused...

A planar lipid bilayer (BLM) workstation, used to record currents through actively gating, ion conducting single channels, is a complex apparatus requiring several components working in concert. These components include a means to support the lipid membrane, high gain amplification, shielding of electromagnetic interference and mechanical vibration, mechanisms for stirring and changing solution...

T paper is concerned with the problem of determining the optimal size and composition of a permanent workforce needed to run a facility when demand is specified by a workstation group (WSG) for up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For full-time employees, a solution is characterized by a bid job, which consists of a five-day-a-week schedule, a lunch break for all shifts, and a set of WSG task a...

The inverse design of a three-dimensional nanophotonic resonator is presented. The design methodology is computationally fast (10 minutes on a standard desktop workstation) and utilizes a 2.5-dimensional approximation of the full three-dimensional structure. As an example, we employ the proposed method to design a resonator which exhibits a mode volume of 0.32(λ/n)3 and a quality factor of 7063.

Carpet weavers suffer from musculoskeletal problems mainly attributed to poor working postures. Their posture is mostly constrained by the design of workstations. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of 2 design parameters (weaving height and seat type) on postural variables and subjective experience, and to develop guidelines for workstation adjustments. At an experimental works...

Background: Musculoskeletal diseases are quite common among healthcare professionals including medical laboratory technicians. This cross-sectional study aimed to identify the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms and ergonomic risk factors in Indian medical laboratory technicians.   Materials and Methods: The study sample comprised of 130 male and female laboratory technicians ...
