Group A rotaviruses belong to the Reoviridae virus family and are classified into G P genotypes based on outer capsid proteins VP7 VP4, respectively [...]

Abstract Bluetongue (BT) is an economically important arboviral disease of sheep, cattle, goats, and wild ruminants, particularly in America Europe. However, it has remained uncontrolled due to the evolution >32 serologically distinct BT virus (BTV) serotypes lack broad-spectrum vaccines. While outer VP2 VP5 proteins, involved cell penetration, are less conserved, certain core BTV protei...

The functions of the two rotavirus glycoproteins were investigated by using tunicamycin and a variant of SA11 rotavirus having nonglycosylated VP7. Results showed that glycosylation of VP7 is not required for normal viral morphogenesis and infectivity and suggested that the nonstructural glycoprotein is involved in assembly of the outer capsid.

Four polyethylene glycol-mediated cell fusions yielded a total of 23 monoclonal antibodies (McAbs) specific for African horsesickness virus (AHSV). Two recognised the major core structural polypeptide, VP7, while one each was specific for the outer capsid proteins, VP2 and VP5. The remainder co-precipitated both VP2 and VP7. An inhibition ELISA and radio-immunoprecipitation revealed two types o...

Maturation of rotavirus occurs in the ER. The virus transiently acquires an ER-derived membrane surrounding the virus particle before the eventual formation of double-shelled particles. The maturation process includes the retention and selective loss of specific viral protein(s) as well as the ER-derived membrane during formation of the outer capsid of the mature virus. When infected cells were...

background: mushroom tyrosinase a potent candidate in clinical studies known as polyphenol oxidase, is a metaloenzyme from the oxidase superfamily widely distributed from lower to higher life forms. it plays a crucial role in sclerotization of exoskeleton in insects, also responsible for skin pigmentation in mammalians. objective: in this study, after reconstitution of mt by some metal ions, th...

We report on two children with mild encephalopathy with a reversible splenial lesion associated with group A rotavirus (GARV) infection. We examined stool, serum, and cerebrospinal fluid samples to determine the presence of the GARV VP7 gene and GARV antigen by reverse-transcription PCR and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. GARV antigen was detected in stool samples from both pat...

in the process of learning basic biochemistry, as in any other area, much extra class work is required for students before basic concepts, such as those concerning protein structure and properties, are firmly settled. to reach this end we have developed a simple instruction method to teach protein structure in biochemistry courses for medical students. the objectives of this method are to illus...

Rotavirus strains circulating in Sousse, Tunisia, between 1995 and 1999 were characterized antigenically by monoclonal antibodies to the VP6 subgroup and the VP7 serotype. The VP4 genotype was determined by reverse transcription-PCR, as were the strains with untyped VP7. Only 17% of 375 children were shedding rotavirus as determined by latex agglutination assay. Most rotavirus strains were G1P[...
