The rapid proliferation of data has lead to the necessity of big data. However the volume of big data is constantly growing. Big data comprises of extremely large data sets which are beyond the scope of management offered by commonly used software. Big Data mining can be described as a set of techniques and technologies used for extracting useful information from these large datasets or streams...

A sprint kayaking specific deterministic model was used to identify key performance related technique factors using data from 12 international-level kayakers. There was large variability in the strength of the between-factor relationships across the group. The pull phase was split into 3 components with the 1st phase contributing the most to increases in boat velocity and the 3rd phase causing ...

The nature of experimental error in the determination of initial velocities of enzymecatalysed reactions was investigated. No support was found for the generalization that such velocities should be homogeneous in variance. Instead the variance increased with the velocity in all of the cases studied. The weighting of sets of replicate observations according to their sample variances was tested i...

Acoustic data are presented from a prosodic database containing data from 3 French speakers. The prosodic boundaries examined are the Utterance, the Intonational Phrase, the Accentual Phrase, and the Word. The aim is to study the interaction of coarticulatory effects with prosodic effects. The vowel /a/ before the prosodic boundary and the consonants /b d I f s 5/ after the prosodic boundary ar...

T The aim of this study was to investigate the variability of stride length and stride frequency between athletes of different performance levels in the 100m and then verify the influence of these kinematic parameters on the phases of the race and technical efficiency. Data from a group of 8 average male sprinters (mean performance 11.18) and the men’s 100m finalists in 1991 IAAF World Champion...

A two-dimensional mean field dynamo model is solved where magnetic helicity conservation is fully included. The model has a negative radial velocity gradient giving rise to equatorward migration of magnetic activity patterns. In addition the model develops longitudinal variability with activity patches travelling in longitude. These patches may be associated with active longitudes.

The effects of involuntary respiratory contractions on the cerebral blood flow response to maximal apnoea is presently unclear. We hypothesised that while respiratory contractions may augment left ventricular stroke volume, cardiac output and ultimately cerebral blood flow during the struggle phase, these contractions would simultaneously cause marked 'respiratory' variability in blood flow to ...

The monthly circulations on isopycnal surface in the western North Pacific are calculated based on the Navy’s Generalized Digital Environmental Model climatological temperature and salinity data on a 1/2° × 1/2° grid using a P-vector method. The eastward Subtropical Countercurrent (STCC) in the central subtropical gyre has been studied with emphasis on its spatial distribution, vertical structu...

1 A hypothesis in characterizing human depression is that change in the brain‟s basal ganglia results in a decline of motor coordination [6][8][14]. Such a neuro-physiological change may therefore affect laryngeal control and dynamics. Under this hypothesis, toward the goal of objective monitoring of depression severity, we investigate vocal-source biomarkers for depression; specifically, sourc...
