We show some mathematical links between partially observable (PO) games in which information is regularly revealed, and simultaneous actions games. Using this, we study the extension of Monte-Carlo Tree Search algorithms to PO games and to games with simultaneous actions. We apply the results to Urban Rivals, a free PO internet card game with more than 10 millions of registered users.

An urban district heating network represents an energy efficient way to supply the cities heat demand. The extension of district heating and the increase of it’s share in heat supply allows replacing ecological inefficient heating technologies. The economic feasibility of the extension and expansion and the operation of a local district heating network is a major issue. Hence the investment dec...

Automatic classification of urban settlement from satellite images has various applications such as urban development planning and the gathering of environmental statistics. Abeigne Ella et al. [1] showed that Local Binary Patterns (LBP) features extracted from QuickBird images of the Soweto region in South Africa is superior to other feature extraction methods described in [2],[3], [4], [5], [...

Multibaseline (MB) PolinSAR techniques are applied to the analysis of urban areas to estimate the heights of scatterers, discriminate the layover contributions and extract scattering mechanisms. This paper applies the weighted subspace fitting (WSF) method to resolve the MB-PolinSAR problem in urban areas. Considering two scatterer signal models, i.e, the coherent and distributed scatterers, WS...

Documents serve an important role in understanding change in urban fabric. The available multidimensional (spatial, temporal and thematic) information in these documents narrate not only the various features of the elements of the urban fabric but also notifies their changes during time. CityGML standard is used to spatially and temporally represent the city objects. But it misses features to r...

Urban dynamics deal with spatial organizations where a great complexity of interactions appears. Social and economic aspects interact and environmental objectives are nowadays a major purpose for sustainable urban development. We propose some generic modelling processes able to face with this complexity, in order to simulate the evolution of the city centers. These organizational centers need a...

In this paper I examine how the politics of mobility is an important factor when considering the contentious nature of urban growth debates. By a politics of mobility I mean the political struggle over what type of transportation mode—be it automobile, transit, or walking— is developed in a city, and how urban space is configured to make various modes functional. More importantly, the politics ...
