Image blending is very important for image stitching with visible seams. An effective blending method for panoramic images in image-based virtual reality is proposed in this paper. The proposed blending method is a two-phase scheme. The histogram-based blending is first applied in the first phase scheme; and then in the second phase scheme, the weighted blending is used under the result of the ...

We present a sharp interface method for computing incompressible immiscible two-phase flows. It couples the Level-Set and Volume-of-Fluid techniques and retains their advantages while overcoming their weaknesses. It is stable and robust even for large density and viscosity ratios on the order of 1000 to 1. The numerical method is an extension of the second-order method presented by Sussman (200...

The problem of determining exact expressions for the effective stiffness tensor macroscopically anisotropic, two-phase composite media of arbitrary microstructure in arbitrary space dimension d is considered. We depart from previous treatments by introducing an integral equation for the “cavity” strain field. This leads to new, exact series expansions for the effective stiffness tensor of macro...

This research proposal presents a novel study that aims to contribute to the understanding of factors that impact on the performance of Australian university business school websites. The proposed study addresses the current limitations of website performance measurement and incorporates a multilevel perspective that accounts for user and organisational perspectives on website performance. This...

We introduce a robust method for computing viscous and viscoelastic two-phase bubble and drop motions. Our method utilizes a coupled level-set and volume-of-fluid technique for updating and representing the air-water interface. Our method introduces a novel approach for treating the viscous coupling terms at the air-water interface; these improvements result in improved stability for computing ...

In this paper we consider a nonlinear two-phase Stefan problem in one-dimensional space. The problem is mapped into a nonlinear Volterra integral equation for the free boundary.

In a recent article [1], the authors report evidence for an intriguing two-phase behavior of financial markets when studying the distribution of volume imbalance (Ω) conditional to the local intensity of its fluctuations (Σ). We show here that this apparent phase transition is a generic consequence of the conditioning and exists even in the absence of any non trivial collective phenomenon. More...

In this article, the issue of attitude control and active vibration suppression of a nonlinear flexible spacecraft is assessed through piezoelectric patches as actuator and sensors. Two controller loops are applied: the inner loop, to make the panel vibration damped through piezoelectric patches; and the outer loop, to perform spacecraft maneuver using the reaction wheel acting on the hub. An o...

We propose a new approach for practical secure two-party computation (2PC) achieving security in the presence of malicious adversaries. Given a program to compute, the idea is to identify subcomputations that depend on only one or neither of the parties’ private inputs. Such computations can be secured at significantly lower cost, using different protocol paradigms for each case. We then show h...

The problem of estimating a generic phase-shift experienced by a quantum state is addressed for a generally degenerate phase shift operator. The optimal positive operator-valued measure is derived along with the optimal input state. Two relevant examples are analyzed: i) a multi-mode phase shift operator for multipath interferometry; ii) the two mode heterodyne phase detection.
