Unusual CoS(2) ellipsoids with anisotropic tube-like cavities have been synthesized from the simultaneous thermal decomposition and sulfidation of a preformed cobalt carbonate precursor. The as-prepared CoS(2) ellipsoids show interesting supercapacitive properties with high capacitance and good cycling performance.

Bulk-heterojunction PPV (poly(p-phenylene vinylene))-CdSe submicron fibers have been prepared by introducing electrostatic interaction between thioglycolic acid capped CdSe nanocrystals and PPV precursor, subsequently with electrospinning and thermal conversion. The photoconductive device on a single PPV-CdSe fiber showed notable photoresponse, good response speed, wavelength-sensitivity, and r...

Porous anatase TiO(2) microspheres composed of {010}-faceted nanobelts were synthesized through simple thermal treatment of a titanium glycerolate precursor. The as-prepared TiO(2) nanomaterial was shown to serve as an efficient photocatalyst for H(2) evolution, and its activity was more than twice that of the benchmark P25 TiO(2).

Good quality, highly monodispersed capped copper metal nanoparticles have been synthesised in a non-hydrolytic approach using thermal decomposition of the Cu(II) precursor [Cu(OCH(Me)CH2NMe2)2] in a hot coordinating solvent without further reducing agents; the copper nanoparticles have been characterised by optical spectroscopy (UV/VIS), electron microscopy (TEM), electron diffraction (SAED), a...

Magnetic hybrid liquid crystalline composites have been obtained either by thermal decomposition of a cobalt precursor in a solution containing a liquid crystal polymer or by dispersing preformed cobalt nanorods in a liquid crystal polymer matrix. The final materials are all mesomorphous and ferromagnetic. Their magnetic characteristics are compared as a function of the synthesis method.

The CO-assisted thermal decomposition of a new, surfactant-ligated Pt precursor, [Pt(acac)(NHR)](n) (n = 2, 3; R = C(18)H(37)), gives structurally uniform five-fold twinned Pt nanorods. The Pt nanorods, mostly covered by {100} facets, exhibit much enhanced electrocatalytic activity over {100} faceted Pt nanocubes, indicating the superior catalytic performance due to the presence of the reactive...

Immobilised TiO2 mesocrystals were prepared on sanded glass substrates via a solution synthesis of immobilised precursor, followed by thermal treatment which triggered topotactic conversion reaction. The obtained possessed not only anatase nanoparticles with high surface area and co-exposed {1 0 1}/{0 1} facets but also large overall particle size strong binding to the substrate inherited from ...

SiC multilayer coatings were deposited via thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using silicon tetrachloride (SiCl 4 ) and various hydrocarbons under identical growth conditions, i.e. at 1100 °C 10 kPa. The consisted of layers whose preferred orientation alternated between random highly 〈111〉-oriented. randomly oriented prepared with either methane (CH or ethylene (C 2 H as carbon precursor, ...

Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) provide effective thermal barrier to the components of gas turbine engines by allowing higher operating temperatures and reduced cool‐ ing requirements. Plasma spraying, electron-beam physical vapor deposition, and sol‐ ution precursor plasma spray techniques are generally used to apply the TBCs on the metallic substrates. The present article addresses the TBCs f...

Hydrocarbon precursor such as methane has been widely used to grow graphene films and the methods of growing quality graphene films are dominated by thermal CVD (chemical vapor deposition) system. Graphene films grown by plasma process are generally highly defective which in turns degrade the quality of the films. Here, using a green precursor, camphor we demonstrate a simple and economical met...
