Prion diseases are fatal neurodegenerative diseases resulting from misfolding of normal cellular prion (PrP(C)) into an abnormal form of scrapie prion (PrP(Sc)). The cellular mechanisms underlying the misfolding of PrP(C) are not well understood. Since cellular prion proteins harbor divalent metal-binding sites in the N-terminal region, we examined the effect of manganese on PrP(C) processing i...

A Rh porphyrin on carbon black was shown to catalyze the electro-oxidation of several aliphatic alcohols (ethanol, 1-propanol, and 2-propanol) and benzyl alcohols. The overpotentials for alcohol oxidation were very low. The reaction mechanism and substrate specificity are discussed.

The interaction between two unsupported Ag(III)porphyrins, which exist as a metalloporphyrin dimer has been studied. UV-visible spectrum shows only slight change in Soret band position indicative of Ag(III) formation. Optimized structure the complexes clearly revealed that metal-centered oxidation results short Ag-N (porphyrin) distance with large distortion porphyrin macrocycle. dispersion eff...

The synthesis, cyclic and rotating disk electrode voltammograms, UV-visible absorption X-ray diffraction analyses of cobalt(II) 10-phenyl-5,15-di-p-tolylporphyrin (1-Co) are described. 1-Co was crystallized by slow diffusion n-hexane into a concentrated CH2Cl2 solution. reveals porphyrin aromatic cycle stacking in the crystal, C-H···π interactions solvent with π-system one tolyl group Co(II)···...

A promising approach to abiotically dechlorinate a variety of chlorinated organic contaminants under reducing conditions is to utilize porphyrins or other tetrapyrrole macrocycles as electron transfer mediators/shuttles for catalyzing their reduction. In this study, various experimental approaches were used to elucidate the role of porphyrin core metals in the reductive dechlorination of tetrac...
