PURPOSE The aim of this prospective comparative study was to assess whether age has influence on peri-implant health in patients treated with mandibular two-implant overdentures during a 10-year evaluation period. MATERIALS AND METHODS A prospective study was carried out with two groups of edentulous patients, viz a younger (n = 52; mean age 45 years, 35-50 years) and an older (n = 53; mean a...
Dental Erosion in a Partially Edentulous Patient with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: A Case Report
Diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), bulimia, anorexia, and extrinsic alimentary factors may cause dental erosion (DE). The minimally invasive therapeutic attitude preserves the remaining healthy tooth structure. In the earlier stages, the direct restoration of dental lesions is possible, using composite materials. In advanced stages of DE, prosthetic treatments are recommen...
Key Clinical Message The continuing resorption of the alveolar ridge will eventually result in insufficient bone height superior to the IAN, making dental implant placement impossible. The augmentation procedure above the IAN in terms of height provides sufficient bone for implant placement and allows long-term successful restoration of missing teeth with implant-supported prosthesis.
The etiology of marginal bone loss around osseointegrated implants is primarily based on the biomechanical and/or microbial factors. If stresses and strains around dental implants under functional loading conditions are expected to exceed the physiologic tolerance thresholds of the alveolar bone, the fixed hybrid prosthesis might be a more reliable treatment of choice instead of fixed metal cer...
When performing a tooth extraction, imminent collapse of the tissue by resorption and remodeling of the socket is a natural occurrence. The procedure for the preservation of the alveolar ridge has been widely described in the dental literatures and aims to maintain hard and soft tissues in the extraction site for optimal rehabilitation either with conventional fixed or removable prosthetics or ...
PURPOSE The aim of this prospective case series study was to evaluate the short-term success rates of titanium screw-type implants with a chemically modified sand-blasted and acid-etched (mod SLA) surface after 3 weeks of healing. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 56 implants were inserted in the posterior mandible of 40 partially edentulous patients exhibiting bone densities of class I to III....
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL), denture satisfaction, and masticatory performance in edentulous patients provided with mandibular implant-supported overdentures (ISODs) retained with telescopic attachments and those of conventional complete dentures (CCDs). Peri-implant soft tissue changes were also evaluated at various...
INTRODUCTION Implant-supported prosthesis has high predictability and success and improves quality of life. This study aims at assessing awareness among the patients regarding implant-supported prosthesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted among 391 study participants. A structured questionnaire was distributed to assess implant-related awareness among the study part...
We describe the fabrication of a meatus obturator prosthesis made with visible light-cured (VLC) resin. The fabrication technique is relatively easy and saves time by eliminating some laboratory procedures for both the patient and the practitioner. The meatus obturator results in a more stable maxillary prosthesis and permits acceptable speech for patients using it.
