An 88-year-old woman with an undiagnosed chronic subdural haematoma underwent emergency repair of a femoral hernia under spinal anaesthesia. The patient complained of headache postoperatively, and a subsequent computed tomography brain scan showed an acute-on-chronic subdural haematoma, with midline shift and impending coning. The patient recovered completely after surgical decompression. The d...
One of the most commonly reported complications associated with spinal anesthesia is post-dural puncture headache, even while, precise mechanisms causing headache are still not well known, which if left untreated, can lead to severe such as subdural hematoma and convulsions. The aim current study was evaluate effect supine versus sitting position on among patients receiving anesthesia. Design: ...
BACKGROUND: Post-dural puncture headache is a symptom often found in post-operative patients who receive spinal anesthesia. Therefore, therapy to reduce patient complaints becomes comparison find the best alternative for action. This case discusses post-dural risk factors post-cesarean section and sphenopalatine ganglion block as an pain intervention. CASE PRESENTATION: The 26-year-old woman, G...
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Only few reports in literature have pointed out to the possibility of a cranial subdural haematoma formation associated with dural puncture during spinal orepidural analgesia. We herein describe such a rare case who was diagnosed to have acute subdural haematoma after combined spinal-epidural anaesthesia used in labour. CASE REPORT A 34-year-old, primigravid women wi...
The objectives of this study is to find the incidence of post dural puncture headache(PDPH) while using traumatic(Quincke) and atraumatic(Whitacre) needles for spinal anaesthesia . A prospective randomized double blind study in 100 ASA 1 and 2 patients undergoing lumbar subarachnoid block for elective inguinal hernia surgery conducted over 8 months. Lumbar puncture was performed by Anaesthesiol...
Regional anesthesia is the favored methods of cesarean section delivery due to their safety to the mother, simplicity of the technique, lesser maternal risk and satisfactory postoperative analgesic effect [1-3]. However, Post-dural puncture headache (PDPH) has been a problem for patients next to dural puncture which is the iatrogenic cause of patient’s morbidity in modern anesthesia, as well as...
A 25-year-old male patient who was infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) underwent a condyloma excision under spinal anesthesia. The patient complained of suspicious postdural puncture headache. The patient did not respond to conservative management. Subsequently, the subdural hematoma (SDH) was found through magnetic resonance imaging. In response, an epidural blood patch was used t...
Spinal anesthesia is the preferred technique for caesarean section. Although hypotension are common, but neurologic complications are rare. Nevertheless, these side effects are serious and must be considered. The incidence of post dural puncture meningitis is very rare complication . In this paper we report a patient who had spinal anesthesia for cesarean section the three days ago and ensuing...
We describe an obstetric patient who presented for removal of a retained placenta. After insertion of the spinal anaesthetic, she developed a severe headache, and a subarachnoid haemorrhage was diagnosed. We discuss the differential diagnosis of the headache, the occurrence of intracranial haemorrhages after dural puncture and the future management of this patient.
