The spectral cell method has been shown as an efficient tool for performing dynamic analyses over complex domains. Its good performance can be attributed to the combination of element with mesh-independent geometrical descriptions and adoption customized mass lumping procedures elements intersected by a boundary, which enable it exploit highly efficient, explicit solvers. In this contribution, ...
This paper deals with the definition of a new function that is a link between Power Spectral Density (PSD) and correlation function, called the Fractional Spectral Moments function. This is defined as the moment of complex order γ of the one-sided PSD. It is shown that by means of this complex function both the correlation function and PSD can be represented with great accuracy.
We assume without loss of generality that E{Xn} = 0. Let rs = i£{XnXn+s}. Then r8 = / I T edF(h), where F(X) is the spectral distribution function of the process. In §3 the spectral distribution function of any process of the form (2.2) is shown to be absolutely continuous. Finally it is shown in §4 that under some additional assumptions on the moment structure of the process the central limit ...
Spectral subband centroid, which is esse ntially the first -order normalized moment, has been proposed for speech recognition and its robustness to additive noise has been demonstrated before. In this paper, we extend this concept to the use of normalized spectral subband moments (NSSM) for robust speech recognition. We show that normalized moments, if properly selected, yield comparable recogn...
We consider determinantal point processes on the d-dimensional unit sphere Sd. These are finite point processes exhibiting repulsiveness and with moment properties determined by a certain determinant whose entries are specified by a so-called kernel which we assume is a complex covariance function defined on Sd× Sd. We review the appealing properties of such processes, including their specific ...
Modern sensor systems high in spectral resolution, such as the Airborne Imaging Spectrometer (AIS), are challenging from an image-processing standpoint because direct classification of datasets with 100 or more spectral channels is virtually impossible. Thus, it is necessary to conduct pre-classification manipulations and transformations both to reduce the amount of data to be classified and to...
The Raman-induced spectral shift of ultrashort pulses, having its origin in the phenomenon of intrapulse Raman scattering occurring inside silica fibers, has been mostly studied in the context of optical solitons. We use the moment method to show that such a spectral shift occurs both in the normal and anomalous-dispersion regimes and depends not only on the pulse width but also on the frequenc...

We present an assessment of how microseismic moment magnitude, MW, estimates vary with the method and parameters used to calculate seismic moment. This is an important topic for operators and regulators who require good magnitude estimates when monitoring induced seismicity. It is therefore imperative that these parties know and understand what errors exist in given magnitude values, something ...
