1 Nonlinear circuit design methods This chapter presents the most commonly used design techniques for analysing nonlinear circuits , in particular, transistor oscillators. There are several approaches to analyse and design nonlinear circuits, depending on their main specifications. This means an analysis both in the time domain to determine transient circuit behaviour and in the frequency domai...
A review of the maximum entropy spectral analysis (MESA) method for time series is presented. Then, empirical evidence based on maximum entropy spectra of real seismic data is shown to suggest that M = 2N/ ln 2N is a reasonable a priori choice of the operator length M for discrete time series of length N . Various data examples support this conclusion.
This paper introduces a new family of distinguishers for sidechannel analysis, based on the spectral coherence between leakage traces. Its main goal is to allow adversaries and evaluators of cryptographic devices to take advantage of both time domain and frequency domain intuitions, while also allowing to keep a generic attack in case such intuitions are not available. Compared to previous side...
In this paper I introduce quantile spectral densities that summarize the cyclical behavior of time series across their whole distribution by analyzing periodicities in quantile crossings. This approach can capture systematic changes in the impact of cycles on the distribution of a time series and allows robust spectral estimation and inference in situations where the dependence structure is not...
In several applications, such as wideband spectrum sensing for cognitive radio, only the power spectrum (a.k.a. the power spectral density) is of interest and there is no need to recover the original signal itself. In addition, high-rate analogto-digital converters (ADCs) are too power hungry for direct wideband spectrum sensing. These two facts have motivated us to investigate compressive wide...
Independent component analysis (ICA) of a mixed signal into a linear combination of its independent components, is one of the main problems in statistics, with wide range of applications. The un-mixing is usually performed by finding a rotation that optimizes a functional closely related to the differential entropy. In this paper we solve the linear ICA problem by analyzing the spectrum and eig...
The wavenumber-frequency spectrum reveals dynamic features of spatiotemporal processes such as traveling oscillatory components, turbulent structures, and linear transfer functions. It can be used to estimate multidimensional covariance, or to directly perform parameter estimation with reduced computational cost. However, simple extensions of univariate spectral estimators can be shown to have ...
