this paper examines the semantic contribution of -?r and -andeh suffixes in persian based on lieber’s (2004) lexical semantic representation. this framework using six semantic features ([material], [dynamic], [location], [ieps] , [b] and [ci] and a principle called coordination principle studies the semantic contribution of lexical items including affixes and their functions in compounding, der...

We introduce an approach that predicts neural representations of word meanings contained in sentences then superposes these to predict neural representations of new sentences. A neurobiological semantic model based on sensory, motor, social, emotional, and cognitive attributes was used as a foundation to define semantic content. Previous studies have predominantly predicted neural patterns for ...

The aim of the project is to construct classifiers which should assign semantic patterns to six given verbs, as accurately as possible. Each verb has a set of usual usage patterns (based on the Pattern Dictionary of English Verbs), defined by its semantic and syntactic characteristics. It is assumed that if we are able to automatically assign these patterns, it will help us in the general probl...

Categories are not invariant. This paper attempts to explore the dynamic nature of semantic category, in particular, that of fashion language, based on the cognitive theory of Dawkins’ memetics, a new theory of cultural evolution. Semantic attributes of linguistic memes decrease or proliferate in replication and spreading, which involves a dynamic development of semantic category. More specific...

The development of indoor Location-Based Services faces various challenges that one of which is the method of generating indoor routing graph. Due to the weaknesses of purely geometric methods for generating indoor routing graphs, a semantic-geometric method is proposed to cover the existing gaps in combining the semantic and geometric methods in this study. The proposed method uses the CityGML...

This paper presents a semantic parsing approach for non domain-specific texts. Semantic parsing is one of the major bottlenecks of Natural Language Understanding (NLU) systems and usually requires the building of expensive resources not easily portable to a different domain. Our approach obtains a case-role analysis, in which the semantic roles of the verb are identified. In order to cover all ...

In this paper we propose using the distributional differences in the syntactic patterns of near-synonyms to deduce the relevant components of verb meaning. Our method involves determining the distributional differences in syntactic patterns, deducing the semantic features from the syntactic phenomena, and testing the semantic features in new syntactic frames. We determine the distributional dif...

This paper describes the basic philosophy and implementation of MPLUS (M+), a robust medical text analysis tool that uses a semantic model based on Bayesian Networks (BNs). BNs provide a concise and useful formalism for representing semantic patterns in medical text, and for recognizing and reasoning over those patterns. BNs are noise-tolerant, and facilitate the training of M+.

Speech acts shape the core of pragmatic competence and their mastery is a prerequisite for successful dis- course encounters in an L2. Cross-cultural comparisons, as claimed by Johnstone (2018), are very effec- tive for knowing and acquiring the speech acts. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to compare a limited number of communicative routines in English and Persian within the f...

The correctness of model transformation is an import research field in model-driven architecture. Syntactic correctness and semantic consistency are hot topics in the field of model transformation. Syntactic correctness has many mature solutions. However the validation of semantic consistency has some problems. Therefore, how to validate semantic consistency of model transformation is a major p...
