Knowledge of the distribution of permeability and porosity in a reservoir is necessary for the prediction of future oil production, estimation of the location of bypassed oil, and optimization of reservoir management. But while the volume of data that can potentially provide information on reservoir architecture and fluid distributions has increased enormously in the past decade, it is not yet ...

Abstract The Mediterranean-Atlantic water mass exchange provides the ideal setting for deciphering role of gateway evolution in ocean circulation. However, dynamics Mediterranean Outflow Water (MOW) during closure Late Miocene gateways are poorly understood. Here, we define sedimentary Neogene basins from Gulf Cádiz to West Iberian margin investigate MOW circulation latest Miocene. Seismic inte...

The Baraza Slide is located in the northwestern Alboran Sea, between 590 and 830 m water depth, and its morphology, seismic facies and sedimentary structure are analyzed based on multibeam bathymetry and very high to medium resolution single-channel seismic records. During the Pleistocene and Late Quaternary this landslide has undergone repeated slope failures characterized by a succession of t...

The aim of the study is to condition stochastic generated realizations on well test data in order to improve simulation of facies and petrophysics in fluvial reservoirs. First we have used the pressure data to estimate the shortest distance from the well to a possible channel boundary and thereby simulate the channel structures. The well test also provides the permeability average in the part o...

Geostatistical modeling methods for deep-water depositional systems, which provide a framework to characterize spatial uncertainty, have generally focused on channel-levee-overbank-lobe models. However, these models do not fit all deepwater depositional settings. For example, irregular surface topography of subaqueous mass-transport-deposits (MTDs) played a primary role in controlling the depos...

The present study focuses on facies analysis and the reservoir characteristics of the Asmari Formation in the Aghajari oilfield (located in the Zagros fold-thrust belt, southwest Iran), and how they are linked to depositional environments and reservoir characteristics. This formation consists of about 380 m carbonates with some siliciclastic intercalations. Based on the integration of 1200 m of...

Performance based seismic design (PBSD) is a cogent design approach that allows engineers to design structures with a predictable seismic performance for a specified level of hazard. In contrast to the conventional limit state or strength and serviceability based design in which a structure is designed to withstand severe load combinations and be functional under normal load conditions, PBSD go...

Seismic anisotropy is an efficient way to investigate the deformation field within the upper mantle. In the framework of rigid tectonic plates, we make use of recent tomographic models of azimuthal anisotropy for deriving the best rotation pole of the Pacific plate in the uppermost 200km of the mantle. It is found to be in good agreement with current plate motion (NUVEL1, HS3 and NNR). However,...

This paper reports on the damage of Wushi bridge in a recent Taiwan 921 earthquake. Damage to Wushi bridge appeared in the superstructure, the substructure and the approaches. Typical types of damage are discussed and illustrated in this paper. A review of the bridge design specifications in Taiwan is also presented to give the background on the seismic design of Taiwan highway bridges.
